My surgery was scheduled for tomorrow morning, 15 hours before I'm to arrive at the hospital I get a call from my surgeons office telling me I have to reschedule for a week from tomorrow.

Last week I came down with tonsillitis, pretty common for me. I called the surgeons office Wednesday to let them know. The physicians assistant told me I should make an appointment with my PCP so they can make sure its not strep and let them decide whether or not I'd be okay to keep my surgery date.

I saw my PCP Thursday, ruled out strep and was told that the antibiotics should clear it up and I should to ahead with my surgery. I had a follow up with my PCP today, feeling 100% better and he told me to 'go for it.' I left a voicemail with my surgeons office telling them is be good to go.

A few hours later my surgeons assistant calls to tell me she's glad I'm feeling better but that they're going to reschedule my operation anyway to be on the safe side.

I realize that they are just being cautious & looking out for my health, but if they were going to disregard what my PCP was going to say in the end anyway, couldn't they have just went ahead and did it last week instead of the day before the operation?? I had been starving all day on the clear liquid diet only to have to reschedule. Now I have to move around my time off work and so does my family who wanted to be there. Gah!!!

All that being said, my surgeon and her staff have truly been wonderful up until this point.

Sorry for the long post, just need to rant.

Sorry you are bummed out. I would be too. Although, in all honesty... wouldn't you rather be certain that you are completely 100% healthy before going into surgery... to avoid any unnecessary complications. Sounds like your surgeon is being cautious, and that is a good thing. Next week will be here before you know it!! :)

During the surgery, they put a breathing tube down your throat. My throat was sore after the surgery. If you are recovering from a bout with tonsilitis, your throat is probably even more tender. As frustrating as it is to have to wait, you will be better off. Even though this surgery is a cake walk compared to others, it still is a surgery and the first 24 to 48 hours are uncomfortable.

I wasn't allowed to have anything by mouth until the day after the surgery, after I had a barium swallow. My mouth was bone dry. My lips were cracking. It was pretty miserable.

I agree with both of you. The thing that irritated me is that instead of rescheduling on Wednesday when I called and told them I was sick they waited until the day before. Missed a day of work preparing for nothing. I'm still hummed but it's only a week out. I've waited a few years, I reckon I can wait another week :-)

That is frustrating! You have so much excitement and nerves, not to mention the diet, and work/schedule arrangments just for them to reset it! It might be the right call but I totally get your frustration!

I feel ya honey. But truely it is for the best. I was having issues with my hypothyroidism before my surgery. My Endocrinologist told my Surgeon to postpone my surgery because with the levels I was at I had a high risk of going into cardiac arrest under anestisia (sp?). I was so mad. I had already paid $300 out for a plane ticket for my mom to come help me with my kids and I could not get a refund. SO I do feel ya, but in the end I had the surgery, just a month later than planned and now all of that is just a memory. Good luck to you. Next week will be here before you know it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
