Janahamrick 18 Posted April 16, 2012 I just made my first dr appt. It is wednesday morning. I am so excited. How long is typical from your first appt till the day you have surgery? Just trying to get a time frame in mind...
justathing2me 146 Posted April 16, 2012 My insurance requires 6 months of a physician supervised diet. I started in February and will have my surgery the end of July. All insurances are different and have different requirements. So I would say it depends on whether or not your surgery is being covered by insurance. Welcome! yellowrose88 43 Posted April 16, 2012 My insurance required 2 years of supervised diet. Therefore I opted to self-pay.
MandaElaine 20 Posted April 16, 2012 Congratulations on getting started!! Due to my insurance I had a 6 month waiting period. I started November 18, and Friday April 20 is my last appointment. I have scheduled my surgery for May 17, as long as insurance permits. A friend of mine was a self pay and from her first appointment to her surgery date, was only a month. meis9373 0 Posted April 16, 2012 I am also starting my journey! I have completed the seminar and now I am scheduled to meet my doctor on 04/30. What kind of questions should a person have? I am morbidly obese and have Type II Diabetes so my concern is approximately how soon will I be able to stop taking my oral meds for Diabetes?

He us going to go ahead and do an endoscopy for my reflux. I am going to also call ny insurer and discuss with them

cookiecrumb 0 Posted April 18, 2012 yaaaaayyyy finally someone at the same point as me! . ...i went to my consultation 02/21/2012...my insurance also wants 6months but i got a letter from my pediatrician saying that he tried nutritional counseling with me since the age of 8, and just got a letter from the GYN who delivered my baby. he wrote that my pregnancy was considered high risk due to obesity and that he provided nutritional counseling for the 9months......I'm hoping they will wave the 6months diet
meis9373 0 Posted April 18, 2012 I called my insurance company yesterday and was told that they would need a to see a record of failed dieting for 6 months! Let's see.........I had gestional diabetes 17 years ago while pregnant with my son. I have been Type 2 Diabetic for 13 years w/high cholesterol and borderline high blood pressure. My BMI is at 37. I am 46 years old and I play tennis 2-3 days a week and walk my dogs the other 2 days a week and I haven't shed a pound in 5 years! I have seen a nutritionist and counted the carbs and I have done weight watchers. I suffer from plantars faciitis, bone spurs in my heels and I have a sore right hip! My hair is thinning on my head because of the Diabetes meds too! I need relief! I'm hoping an exception can be made for me.
