Anyone Else??

Recommended Posts

I know certain foods are supposed to be off limits to bandsters, but yesterday after a cookout, my family went out for ice cream and I had some. It was the first ice cream I had since before my surgery 6 months ago. It was fantastic and I savored every bite. Plus, I loved the fact that I didn't have to worry about getting stuck while eating it.

I'm back on track this morning and feeling great, plus I got on the scales this morning and I'm down 2 pounds!!

It definitely won't be an every day or every week thing, but it really felt great to treat myself since I have restriced my food so much in the last year (strated supervised diet last April to prepare for surgery).

Does anyone else do this occasionally?

Absolutely!!!! Like you though, I don't do it everyday, and I get right back on the bandwagon afterwards.

A special treat every once in a while is fine. I set goals for myself and when i reach that goal I treat myself. But if it is a sinful treat then i set a big goal like 20-30lbs. For non food treats I will choose a massage or Mani-Pedi....things like that.

TCBY has soft serve 0 fat low cal yogurts! Also, Ben and Jerry's have lower cal and higher Protein frozen yogurts and 1/4 c is only about 100 calories. THey are just as good as regular Ben & Jerry's

My problem is I am addicted to ice cream... so I can't buy it. If it is in my house, I will eat it all. My addiction got worse after banding because it was the one thing I could eat mindlessly, and large quantities of. Ice cream is EVIL. LOL.

I had a kiddie cone with icecream the other day, here at the boardwalk in jersey, and Just had a bowl of frozen yogurt tonight! Just as good as icecream, but a bit healthier. I walk 40 mins everyday, so i think a treat here and there is just fine!

I didnt cheat at all until I was about 8-9 months out... and I had a fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie. It was the best cookie I had ever tasted. LOL

Now that I am 30 lbs from goal I will have something I shouldnt every now and again but I limit it to one bite... so there is no damage and I am satisfied.

I eat ice cream fairly often. Not every day or anything, but often enough. :D My weight loss is slow because I don't deprive myself of anything, but I'm happy for that - I need this band to fit in with my personality and my lifestyle, and it doesn't suit me to sit by and watch while my husband and our 4yo have an ice cream! I'm happy for slow, steady losses if it means I have have an ice cream or a bit of cake when I feel like it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
