A Bit Depressed, Stressed, And Falling Off The Band Wagon! Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I am needing help/suggestions. I am so stressed with my current situation with family and moving, I have found myself going back to the only thing I know how to deal....food. I need to get back on track, but have little motivation. I had my surgery March 31st, 2011 and have lost 60 lbs. So its been slow, and I have about 60 more lbs to go to goal. Does anyone have any tips on how to get back on track and feel excited again? I'm desperate for help. :) Thanks tons.

Buy yourself a cute new outfit in one size too small. Buy yourself some cute new workout clothes to wear now! I bought some new shorts, tops and workout bra yesterday and I worked out both Saturday and Sunday! You did it once, you can do it again!

Hey REDsparkles11!

I was banded Spring 2011 too. I moved this fall to another state and everything seemed to get a little off track. I haven’t gotten a fill in months because I'm too bummed that I gained some weight since the last time I went in. I also need a little lift to get back in the swing of things.

Here are a few things I started thinking about the last few weeks to get myself back on track:

1- (said to self) hey self, remember when you had major surgery to loose weight? yeah, me too. Stop being a bum and making excuses and do something.

2- Remember how jazzed you were before you got surgery about your life after surgery? Let's find that again.

3- Write down what you eat. I've re-joined WW.

4- The first few weeks are tough. I’m trying to get to that point where I see results. When you see results, you have this switch that goes off. I don’t know how it was for you but when I lost that first 30 and I started to really notice, I stopped craving food and I started being really focused on eating healthy.

We’ll get there!

As a newly banded person I don't have much room to give advice but there are alot of people on my fitness pal - its free and there's a app for smart phones we keep each other honest and encourage each other - maybe logging you'd food and excercise would help. Best of luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
