Super Newbie - My ?: Can I Ever Eat Semi-Normal Again?

Recommended Posts

I have a diet coke now and then. It really curbs my appetite cause it makes my belly feel bubbly hehe. I have lost 40 lbs since I began my journey (banded 3-1-12). It sounds so scary all the things u aren't supposed to do but once u get going on it it's not a big deal. I watch cooking shows and such and think to myself, "how can people eat those gigantic portions?!?!?". This band (Bertha) has changed my life and I am so happy about that!

Good job! Congrats on your progress!

Lose it and keep it off while you are young!!! The absolute biggest regret of my life is carrying around all this excess weight for thirty years. And struggling with it for 20 years before that because I (and my parents) ***thought*** I was fat. How different my life would be if I had not had this problem - oh well; I guess I had it for a reason unbeknownst to me. I'd love to live the rest of my life without this daily burden and I guess if it's meant to be, it's up to me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
