FYI - I'm RNY not Lap Band

Recommended Posts

:hungry:

I was originally looking at LapBand as my surgery option but I decided it wasn't the best fit for me. So, after joining and meeting all these nice ladies, I decieded to do Lap RNY, this was an agonizing decision process.

The nice Ladies on the NC board have been here for me and wouldn't let me leave once I made my mind up that RNY was the best decision.

These are awsome ladies and that's why I'm still around.

Please don't be jealous. Losing the weight rapidly is an advantage, not the reason why I chose the surgery. I have/maybe had uncontrolled hypertension so if I hit 120/80 or under this is the number that would make me jump up and down.

I have lost some weight, however, I'm surprised.

Just picking...there are things with your surgery that I'm defiently not jealous over...so I think it all evens out. It all comes down to as Kim said, we are all fighting the same battle, and we all need each others support to get there.

I think i need to start my own thread, I think my fill kicked in with a vengence today...I had trouble eatting fish of all things. Thank goodness I drive a rolling trash can and had a cup handy is all I can say.

What kind of fish do you eat Melissa? I'm not really a fish person.

I read that shrimp and things are great sources of protien.

I know your kidding about the weight. Last night my impressionable 14 year old neice asked me if I had surgery to get skinny. I wanted to reinforce, I did it to get healthier and that I have high blood pressure. I worry about her because she follows and it's kinda scary what these young girls go through these days. Plus, she goes to an all girls school.

Melissa - have you asked one of the trainers at the Y about your fitness program? Maybe one of the cute guys could help you. I know my husband lifts to get bigger and bigger, and he asked a friend whose a gym teacher and found out he was exercising wrong. Oh, not my husband. Mr, Know it all. (Polite jab to him).

I eat mostly tilipia....though I like tuna and salmon as well. I just dont' cook them as well. It'll get better I'm sure. I've been cooking up a bit and then packing it int he little 4 oz rubbermaid containers to have it ready to go.

I've found with talking to different trainers....they all tell you differently. LOL I really want to get the study course to study for certification myself, but it just isn't possible right now. I've defiently gotten some muscle weight on me. I can see muscles, which is cool, just wish I didn't see the fat hanging from them LOL...working on it. I had a great NSV today...ran into someone at the grocery store and she said "wow, hardly didn't recognize you, you are loosing so much weight!" Of course I actually had makeup on and was dressed in something other than sweats LOL.

For training right now, I'm doing 30-70 minutes of cardio a day...and 30-60 minutes of weights. Today was a light day and I only did 30 minutes cardio and NO weights. (they tried to call me into work this morning, and I was afraid to go in to workout in fear they would rope me into working or I'd feel quilty for NOT working.) Pathetic I know.

I have a 14 year old I worry about getting the wrong idea about me getting the surgery. I DID do it to loose weight, and I hoped it would PREVENT future medical problems. I was a lucky fat gal, no medical problems based on my weight. My doc was even surprised. I attribute most of that to working out though. I've been working out pretty reguarlly for over 2 years now....even if I haven't lost weight with it...I've gained health benifits and energy. Witht he 14 year old I try to emphasis what I eat that is HEALTHY and that if I hadn't spent SOOO many years eating the wrong things, and had of started exercising earlier, I wouldn't have NEEDED the surgery. Right now she is very self concious of the "extra" weight she carries. I on the other hand would look at her "extra" as perfectly acceptable to ME lol. I have got her trying some of my new vegitarian cuisine. Hubby is worried I'm going to become a vegitarian and he'll never have steak again. At this very moment I think I could give up red meat forever....I'm that scared of trying it.

I think it is great that you are here and posting. It is nice to get another perspective from another WLS. I hope you definitely stay around and give us some insight into the RNY procedures. Many people here are researching all their options and your opinions and experiences will help out!

Thanks Ladies.

Melissa, I cannot wait to eat some eat post op. IN Three more weeks, I want a chicken quasedia (sp) and I already know I"m gonna get precooked chicken, cheese shreds, low car tortilla shells and low fat sour cream. I look forward to eating meats. Even if I can only have 2 bites. I do like veggies and fruits too.

I'm glad it's not my 14 year old right now, it's so bad to be fat. Soceity looks down so heavily on body weight. Then, on top of that, the media is declaring war on being fat, everything is blown up.

My husband and I do not allow our daughter to drink Soda. All her class mates bring this up and they are 5. Guess whose teeth are not rotting.

One kid's teeth are nasty brown on the fronts, he's definitly a soda kid.

Keep pumping. I get staples out today.

Good luck with your staple removal today! I've never had staples, but I've heard it feels really good to have them removed?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
