Nervous, Surgery Date April 30

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I start my pre-surgery diet, Protein Shakes, Multivitamins, and a small dinner every day. I am nervous about

this as there are so many food triggers that it is going to be hard to walk away from them, but I have to in order for me to be successful on this life change I am about to make. Was anyone else worried about their pre-surgery diet and also nervous for the the surgery itself??? I am very nervous about it, is there anything I can do to calm myself?????

Just breathe. I am having my surgery on April 25 and have been on the pre op diet for 5 days and it was torture at first but it is what it is. I spread out my Protein drinks and am eating sugar free Jello in between. I get a few hunger pains but they pass in a few minutes. What get me through is remembering why I am doing this in the first place.

Good Luck to all of you :D I had my surgery on 4/12 and I am doing just great! I was so nervous and scared the day of my surgery it wasn't even funny lol I was crying in the pre ope area and couldn't stop but than I remembered why I was having this surgery and plus my mother n law and my husband were in the area with me and making me laugh so much that i forgot why I was crying in the first place.

Just relax and you will do fine it helps when u have a loved one near to help makes things easier on you. it also helps that the anesthesiologist gives you something in your Ivy to help you relax than before you know it you wake up in recovery :) Just also remember take deep breaths after surgery this will help with the gas pain. :)

I think normal to be nervous and dread this liquid diet . Mine is April 20th and ready as the diet feels like I've been on forever (and know it will for quite a while after)! It does make me feel better to see almost everyone is feeling the same way. I love reading the posts from those of you also that just had surgery. The tips and help are so reassuring and know will use to make for a easier recovery

I was banded on the 13th and I promise you it won't be as bad as you think. Just think of how great you'll feel a year from now!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
