August 2011 Bandsters, How Are We Doing??

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow August 2011 bandsters! just real curious how everyone is progessing? I was off the sight for a few months, and came back a couple weeks ago. I would love to hear everyones weight loss to this point, and any feedback, positive and negative. Also how are we doing with foods?..everything going down ok? What are trouble foods for you? And fills, how many have you had thus far? I was banded 8/31/11 (just made it lol). I am down a total of 69 lbs. I have had 4 fills..i think one more should do it. I can eat almost anything..but bread and rice give me some problems here and there. I have a hard time eating Breakfast, usually have 1/2 a scrambled egg. And my biggest NSV ...have not thrown up once! :)

I was banded 8/8/11 and am down 63lbs. I have had several fills and am now at my sweet spot. I am loving my band and feeling great!!! I do not eat Breakfast since the stomach muscles are so tight in the morning so I have a Protein Shake. I do not eat most carbs, bread, rice, cereals, Pasta. I work out three days a week at the Y in the pool which is great since I broke my ankle. I am hoping to keep losing at a steady pace and keep looking and feeling better. I am 20lbs away from being under 200 and I can not wait!!

Hello. I was banded 8/17/11 and am down 37 pounds (ok - it's 36.8, but I'm rounding up). It's been a slow road for me. I can certainly see the difference in the amount of food and, in some cases, the types of food that I'm eating. I have have 5 fills, but it wasn't until the last 2 that I really noticed a difference (i.e. restriction).

I had my last fill last Thursday, so I'm still getting used it it. I've always been able to eat a decent quantity of food. Now, I can eat a very small amount and I start to feel it. It literally feels like my pouch is full and the food is starting to back up into my esophagus. I don't know if that's what it is, but it feels that way. I have to get used to it and remember to STOP eating when I start to feel it. The amount of food seems so little, it doesn't seem possible.

I have 8cc in a 14cc band.

Foods that I have trouble with - lettuce, rice and (new yesterday) peapods!

I look forward to hearing from others. Keep up the great work - you guys are doing wonderful!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
