When I had my surgery, the woman sharing the room with me was in there to have her band replaced. She was drinking soda regularly since being banded and it prolapsed her band, which means her band not only slipped but her stomach actually came up through the band.

All due to drinking carbonation.

I was told not to ever drink carbonation again after being banded, and after seeing what my hospital roommate went through because of drinking it, you better believe I will NEVER touch it again. It's not worth the risk.

On St. Patty's day I had the band for two and half months, completely forgot, and ordered a beer... big mistake! Too many bubbles trying to go through the band and too much trying to come back out of the band... Very painful. Try taking a sip and keeping it in your mouth. Notice how much of that sit foams up in your mouth. That's why everyone recommends letting it sit out for a while. But bloody mary's don't get me any problems.. :0)!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
