Feels Like Something Is Stuck In Back Of Throat. What Does That Mean

Recommended Posts

I ate some eggs last night for first time, now all morning I feel like I have something stuck in the back of my throat. Can someone give me some insight?

6days post op

Thanks

My guesses are that some of the eggs went back up into your esophagus when you were sleeping (presumably in a horizontal position), and/or your esophagus got irritated by the eggs or something else you ate yesterday. I would stick with liquids for 24 hours to allow the food to break down and your esophagus to calm down.

One of the reasons bandsters must be careful not to overeat is that if we eat too much food for our upper stomach pouch, the food will back up into the esophagus. The esophagus is meant for transporting food, not storing it, so food sitting in the esophagus for too long will eventually cause irritation, regurgitation, dilation, and/or painful spasms.

6 days post op? Doesn't your dr still have you on liquids?

I was on clears 7 days, full liquids 7 days, yogurt 7 days, and then eggs. So seems like you should wait a few weeks before eggs.

Was going to say the same thing...6 days post op and having eggs seems a bit fast, but i know all Dr's are different with their guidelines. You might have some acid reflux from the eggs not being able to pass properly. I would call your Doc.

i was on Clear Liquids for a week, then slowly introduced some other veges into broth. the only eggs im allowed to have are raw eggs at three weeks, and im not going that way. i reckon its too soon for you.

Have you tried you Protein Shake, and see if it washes it down?

Its worth the try.... Stay on fluids then for a while.

Well I know when I have the same "stuck" feeling it's usually when I eat too fast. Then I stop eating and it goes away.

I have issues with eggs since banding; they're not the easiest for me to digest. I would wait a bit longer before trying them again. As to the "stuck throat" feeling, I'm sorry I can't help there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
