Help, How Will I Feel Towards Food???

Recommended Posts

hi there.

Im marie and am new to this. I havent been banded yet but am seriously thinking abot it. I have heard some very good sucsess stories. well done, but also know of a couple of people that have been banded but havent lost any weight. I wandered if anyone could give me any information on to why they think this is??

Also, how does it make you feel afterwards, towards food I mean? My problem is with food is that while im busy all day I dont even think about food, then I come home from work about 8.00 in the evening, starving and want to stuff myself silly. Unfortuantly for me even though my belly is telling me im full if my partner is eating something lovely I want to eat it too. I want to be able not to want food. Is this how a band will make me feel?

I have tried many diets but not sucseeded because if my family eat nice things then I want to eat them too and I have no will power.

desperatly seeking help before I get any fatter

People who get banded but don't lose the weight don't follow the rules. They eat crap they shouldn't and learn to eat around their bands.

As for how you will feel, everyone is different. Some people grow indifferent to food, others still want food and must stop themselves. The band is supposed to help you stay fuller longer.

i can only speak for myself.

i sometimes feel hungry and sometimes forget to eat. When we go out to eat I don't care we go cause food isn't that important anymore. My only preferences are to make sure there are choices i can eat lke breadless, no rice etc.

the part about you eating everything in sight well the band will change that. No matter if you have or haven't eaten all day, you will still only be able to eat a certain amount at a meal.

The band isn't gonna make you dislike food. Neither is it going to make bad food disappear just because you're now banded. Trust me, you're gonna want food. We need food to even live. The band does nothing more but HELP you control how much you eat. It does NOT control *what* you eat. The only things I can't eat are bread, Pasta, sometimes rice, stringy meat, stringy veggies and melted cheese. So its up to ME to control the intake of food. Some days I do good, eh somedays...I eat what I want. And what I want might be ice cream for dinner. I'm not about to beat myself up over it either. The band does help with reminding you that you have a limit. Some people measure every bite they take...that doesn't fit in with my life. I eat until I feel full. Some people have 1/2 a cup...seriously? I'm trying to get OVER my issues with food, not cause more. Each to their own but you'll find YOUR own when and if you choose the band.

I'm only one week post band, so I'm probably not qualified to answer. So far I don't really feel like eating. I'm measuring everything I eat. Right now I need to. I don't plan on measuring everything forever. I'm just so close to my pre band self I'm learning new habits. Some foods sound good, the same foods still smell good. I was craving chili so I made a pot. I was only able to eat 1/4 cup before I was done. Not too shabby. I've lost 25 lbs in three weeks. So it's working for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
