Recommended Posts

Ok I was banded on March 5,2012. I was told by my doctors office no carbs.... so now I am so confused as of what to eat for breakfast.. I have only been doing eggs and I am so burnt out.. what can I eat for Breakfast foods? I was told no grits, or oatmeal. They also said its not permanent just until you get to your goal weight... HELP....

hmmm, my dr recommended oatmeal before for breakfast. I either have eggs with 1/2 ounce chedder or a contaiianer of greek yogurt with 1/2 c Kashi Go Lean Crunch Cereal with a few sliced up strawberries.

I have a greek yogurt smoothie during the work week. I add some additional Protein Powder (chocolate) and a couple of strawberries or a banana with some ice and 2 packets of splenda and blend it up in the blender. Yum, I love them. I have also used vanilla Protein powder with frozen peaches. I get 1/2 of my days protein in the morning.

My doctor thinks carbs are the devil, too. I started out with an open mind and really tried to do the very low carb thing, but just got weaker and weaker. I finally started adding in some healthy carbs, like high Fiber, multi grain English muffin with my morning egg and stuff with Beans, like turkey chili. I may not be losing fast, but I am losing steadily and my body is happy!

One can not live by carbs alone!! Atleast not this girl!

I am very carb sensitive because of PCOS... and I do lose quicker when on a low carb diet. But there is such a thing as healthy carbs.

  • Raw and lightly steamed vegetables,
  • Legumes, Beans, nuts and seeds,
  • High fiber 100% whole grains,
  • Raw, whole, fresh fruits,
  • Most low fat dairy.

My rule of thumb is I avoid "white". Rice, potato, bread, and Pasta. My breakfast most days is peach Chobani (greek yogurt) with Kashi Go Lean Crunch on top. If I am tight or in a rush... I do a Protein Shake. Maybe try hard boiled eggs with hummus to replace the yolk? There are tons of options.

Adorkbl... We have the same menu!

The other day I bought eggplants, cut them thinly, brushed them VERY lightly with olive oil, put fat free ricotta cheese on them, then some spaghetti sauce, and sprinkled low fat mozzarella to top off.... Baked for about 15 min, and WALA! The best Parmesan I had in a looooong time! And very healthy, virtually no fat or carbs! My whole family loves it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
