Mine got a bit irritated after surgery also (Mine was in December) I am not as sensitive to the scaring (maybe its because im a guy) but I did use some ointment and then followed it up with Maderma and the scars arent that bad at all!

Good luck!!! This board has been awsome just keep in mind ask anything they are usually right.

Red how? If its getting a bit hot, swollen and red around the scar, keep an eye on it and watch out for infection.

The scars themselves - all scars tend to go through a process where they get worse before they get better. Right after surgery they dont look like much, then as the skin begins to heal, they get bigger and colour up with that ever so attractive red or purple hue for a few months, then after that they fade and flatten over a year or two.

You were only banded on the 5th, so I would say if it's not as mentioned hot or swollen, that's probably normal. Mine were reddish as they healed; now they're very faded, just a darker line.

I was bruised up after surgery, so when the bruises went away I could see red around all of my incisions. I was super paranoid and put on antibiotic ointment and watched them like a hawk just in case they were going to take a turn for the worst.... Needless to say, they did not get infected.

The scar near my port is the largest and is pink in color. The other much smaller scars have more of dark color to them. As you heal they may change color.

Zinc, like the kind you see on people's noses in the summer. Also, sunblock! New scars tend to keep discoloration from the sun or tanning. My daughter needed a plastic surgeon once and that's what he told me to do for a facial laceration. Zinc is great for the healing process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
