Ok... Thanks everyone for your help and support on my last question. I'm feeling much better and no longer worried about a slip! Who would think that three weeks out I would start needing so much new info?

I am on day 22 today. (Yay! For me, today means I can eat for the first time. I go straight from shakes to regular diet. But this has nothing to do with my question) I have to take a functional assessment on Tuesday for work. That will put me almost 4 weeks out from surgey. Sit ups are included. I contacted my doc to ask if I should refuse to do the sit ups, because of worry about port attachment. He said just don't over do and I would be the best judge. Can anyone tell me what their doctor told them about abdominal work outs? I thought I remembered somewhere reading 3 months. I anticipate this assessment being " lets see how many sit ups you can do". I will ask the tester what the minimum required is and let him know my concerns and support my port site as best I can. Any other suggestions or information anyone can give?

I agree- I wouldn't do sit ups at all. Just tell them you had surgery and dr. said you can't.

I would not do sit ups! you don't have to explain what surgery you had, just that you had surgery and doc says "not yet".

What type job you got that they make you do sit-ups!! Thats crazy!!

I wouldn't attempt it...even if you could do a couple....you might not pass the minium. But you may need an excuse note from your doctor.

I have no idea what you might feel like since i havent had surgery yet but I asked my Dr about sit ups and workouts. He said I could do absolutely anything after 4 weeks b/c everything is healed at that piont. However, I am sure if you asked 100 Drs you would get 100 different answers.

I am a labor and delivery nurse. It's to ensure I am physically fit enough that I won't be injured and hit them with a workers comp issue. Md won't write a note, said its fine just don't over do. I'm going to let the evaluator know I just can't an hopefully it won't dq me from the position

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
