A New Food Experience After A Fill

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since Oct 4, 2011. Didn't have my first fill until Jan 2012. (thought I was one of those that wouldn't need one) How quickly we learn :-) as I had no restriction and could eat everything. I was losing but realized I was eating more than I should be eating.

Well last week I got a fill and I'm now at 5cc in my 10cc band. Yesterday I was eating a scrambled egg on 1 slice of bread and next thing I knew I had this discomfort in my chest my throat started making these guttural sounds? Then Hiccups came back to back. It hurt for about 45 minutes. I'm glad I've been reading things on this site so I didn't panick. Eventually my system settled so I thought I must have had my first stuck episode. Never got the symptom of the bile like stuff and I thought ok now that means I can no longer have soft bread.

Well this morning I made myself a soft scrambled egg alone and started eating it while chewing cautiously and there was a repeat of yesterday's pain & sounds and awful feeling in my chest.!!! So now I suppose eggs are something I can't eat. I don't understand why a soft scrambled egg doesn't work I just know I never want that experience again.

I love my Band but I have learned no ones journey is the same. I watched those people on You Tube that made it seem like weight was just dropping off in volumes in a matter of weeks. I was expecting those ryoe id results BUT That has not been my journey. I'm down 48 lbs but only about 30 of those pounds have been since the surgery. So to all those newly banded persons don't set yourself up for unrealistic goals work the band as it should be worked and learn that fills will eventually get you to where you want to be slowly but surely maybe the route.

So I guess I will learn day to day what I can and cannot eat now!! It's truly a one day at a time experience with this Band. However I'm happy with it!!

It does seem strange that a nice, soft scrambled egg could cause problems, but that's happened to me. Also, your esophagus may have been inflamed from yesterday's episode with the egg and bread.< /p>

As for losing "only" 30 lbs since your surgery...by my reckoning, that means you've lost an average of 1.5 lbs/week. Typical weight loss with the band is 1-2 lbs/week, so you're right on track!

I've been there. I was even having issues with thick liquids like milk. Your band may be slightly too tight. I've gone round and round with mine lol and would tighten on its own when I stressed (think my stomach swells) I would schedule a follow up with your doc to take a look. May need to remove like 1/2 a cc

You are so right Jean! That's funny I've never looked at it in that light. 1-2 lbs per week!! It was so stuck in my head about the You Tube folks that claimed to be down sometimes 4-7 lbs weekly. I'm on track!! That makes me smile. Thanks for pointing that out.

In regards to the egg I'm leery about trying them again I have noticed since the fill last week I can really eat less and stop!! So I'm going to see how things go until my May appointment and maybe I won't need another fill then.

And remember, you can't necessarily believe everything you see on the internet as God's truth. Maybe the You Tube braggers were torturing the truth. Or maybe they started out twice as heavy as you did, so naturally lost weight more quickly (at first, anyway). Comparing yourself to others is usually fruitless unless you can somehow use it for inspiration.

I have also heard/read that many people cannot do Breakfast at all after a certain piont. It may not be the bread or eggs and simply that you are now moving towards being tight in the morning. My surgery advocate told me he hasnt eaten Breakfast in 3 years. If he is hungry he does a shake, then he loses throughout the day and eats a normal lunch or dinner. Just thought I would share.

Way to go losing 1.5 pounds a week. That is great progress!

I myself dont do breakfast, have lunch and dinner only. Have coffee or Protein Shake for breakfast. Eat lunch around 12 or 1 and dinner 6 or 7. This works for me not hungry til around that time.

Morning tightness is extremely common. I'm not an advocate of liquid calories, even healthy ones, but my breakfast is usually a Protein shake. Several nutritionists have told me it's important to consume some Protein within an hour of waking (without it, your metabolism slows for the rest of the day and you're more likely to overeat later in the day). Drinking a Protein Shake is an easy and (to me) delicious way to accomplish that.

Thanks everyone for sharing such useful information. I will go back to my Protein Shake in the mornings if this is my experience of morning tightness I have acquired since my 4th fill! I'm going to have to pay attention to how I feel in the mornings.

Hi,

You had your surgery almost 3 years to the day after me (mine was October 6, 2008). You are doing great, probably better than many and either better than me or about the same.

As for YouTube I have posted my videos since the beginning of my journey ( I am Usalbgirl on YouTube) and have often talked about my slow losses. But I eventually made it to goal and so will you. It took me over two years. Once you are there it doesn't matter how fast or slow you got there--you will enjoy it. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
