Okay, scheduled for surgery tomorrow. I have been having some allergy issues...drainage in throat...feel it in the ears but I feel okay...not run down, dont have that sick feeling. Im not even blowing my nose, not even stuffed up a little...okay maybe just a little stuffy. Ive lost my voice though...literally I cannot speak. Which is causing me angst to not talk about my feelings regarding tomorrow to those close to me. Met the doc yesterday and he was a little apprehensive as I was whispering my questions to him...he said are you sure you dont want to reschedule...I said no, no I feel fine...etc. If you were me...have been waiting so long but never had the means to do this but finally do. I just want to start this...I dont want to wait anymore. Would you reschedule for next week or continue as planned?

if you're actually sick, reschedule. If you are just stuffy, then take massive amounts of that emergency drink to try and keep the body going and maybe kick whatever is coming on.

your body is already going to be healing from surgery, I wouldn't want to be sick on top of that.

Passion - I had a full blown cold or something when I went for surgery. I couldn't believe that I woke up that morning coughing and a sore throat. I was worried they would turn me away and reschedule. Which they did not. After surgery I woke up feeling better in regard to my cold than when I went in. I guess the antibiotic they give you through the IV and the good clean oxygen they flushed my lungs with took care of it for me. I was no longer coughing and could breathe fine....my husband thought it was kind of ironic. Me too...lol

Better be up front with them, unless your voice comes back and your throat is not sore.

The anesthesiologist is going to pu a tube (endotrachial) down your throat through your vocal cords, hen blow up a balloon. If you are already irritated, this will result in more irritation.

Plus, after you're out, when he looks down yor throat and sees red, he may stop and call off then surgery.

Do everything you can to soothe you thrat now, don't talk more than you need to, and be honest when you go there.

Passion, I was literally just about to post a thread about the same issue. I've been waiting 3 years to get this surgery, it is scheduled for Tuesday and I came down with a nasty cold this week. Gah! My sinuses are congested but my chest isn't. My tonsils are swollen and sore and my throat kills. I know exactly how you feel. I hope you get to feeling 100% before your big day!

Things to consider are that after the surgery, it will be PAINFUL to cough. The gas that they use to inflate your abdomin, caused me to really have a hard time breathing deap and clearing my secretions for the first 24-48 hrs post op. Just remember that your symptoms could be allergie related due to the high levels of pollen that are out now and not a cold. I would try some allergy relief before calling it a cold.

I was under the weather the day of surgery....I didn't have a fever, so I went ahead with it. Like dhales...I woke up feeling a lot better (in regards to the cold/allergies) of course it might be that thing where if you have a paper cut how it bugs you a hundred times during the day, but then if your hit my a mac truck....the paper cut doesn't seem to matter anymore!!---hahaha

If you don't have a fever, then I would go through with it....its probably allergies.

This same thing happened to me! I was coughing so badly that I was worried about what would happen post-surgery. My doc said I would be fine, that the antibiotics would probably kick whatever was going on with me...and sure enough...just like above...I felt better after surgery!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I truly appreciate all your insight. They ended up rescheduling me for next Thursday. Im a little disappointed but Im okay. I also got antibiotics from my pcp in case it's bacterial...pcp said it is too early to tell but if I haven't improved by Friday to take the antibiotics. Sooo anyway week of my preop diet. Ive lost 14 lbs so far...if they dont get me in for a band soon I might not need this surgery...j/k

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
