I have read on here of people failing a sleep test.

If I fail, does this mean I cannot get a lap band?

(I have had 5 other surgeries in the past).

Looks like I am pretty much on the same timeline as you. My third visit as part of my insurance required 6 months is April 16th. I expect to have my surgery the end of July. I failed the home sleep apnea test (apnea link) and will be scheduled for an overnight study. I don't have an answer for you but from my understanding it's just one more thing that tells the drs. that you need to lose weight and you need this surgery! I haven't been told that if you fail, you can't have it done.

for insurance purposes, it's actually a good thing if you fail. It means you have one more co-morbidity.

Absolutely right there!!

I have sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP machine for just over a year now. sleep Apnea will not affect you qualifying in the eyes of insurance it will actually help your cause.

Let your Doctor know every little problem you might have even if it seems minor. I have a touch of arthritis in one of my knees and they documented that to insurance. Sad to say but the more crap you have going the more they can use as ammunition to use on the insurance companies.

Sleep Apnea is a good reason for needing the lapband so don't worry about not being able to get it because of sleep apnea.

Good Luck..Jim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
