Can I Eat Before A Fill....?

Recommended Posts

So... I am 3 and a half weeks post op and have my first adjustment this afternoon. It is now 11:45am and my appoitment is not until 3:15pm. Can I eat lunch like normal or should I just drink something to hold me over...? Any suggestions?!?!

I called my Dr.s office the first time and they said it's OK within reason. I wouldn't eat a Chipotle burrito just before you go in but something normal 4 hours before should be fine.

I agree a light lunch several hours before a fill would be fine for most ..

I was told to eat a light Breakfast and nothing except my Water until the fill, which was also in the late afternoon. Then you are normally suppose to be on Clear Liquids for 2 days, Puree the 3rd and go back to normal if you are ok to do so after that. Some doctors have a different plan, but thats what I have to do for my fills. Hope that helps.

I was told to actually not eat anything the day of a fill. Only liquids...but each doc is different I guess...

Basically they want the pouch empty when you go in for a fill. So if you have no restriction, it shouldn't be an issue. If you have restriction, don't eat something that will still be in your pouch when you go in. So keep it light and drink plenty of Water before hand to make sure it is clear and free.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
