Starting to get nervous

Recommended Posts

I'm not really a nervous type. Especially not *before* -- usually just at the moment of. But yesterday and today, as I've really started making preperations for my surgery Wednesday, little pangs are definitely hitting. If I really stop and think about it, I border a "WTF am I doing??" sensation. I may be the only patient in my hospital's history to need the anti-nauseau medication before I get there.

Since I don't know how I will feel, I went ahead and bought everything I'm allowed to eat through day 7. My post-op foods are grouped by days post-op (e.g. "Days 0 - 4 you can eat these things, days 5 - 7 these things, days 8 - 10...") I have everything tagged with the day it can be eaten... in case DH has to prep a meal for me.

I bought doubles of most things, so I could have "at work" and "at home" versions -- well, food things, and also my pill cutters & crushers. liquid Tylenol, etc.

Ooh, something else I bought -- 4oz measuring glasses that measure in half oz increments -- to help me in the beginning be able to visualize & record how much I'm eating. I need to repot my portions back to the nutritionist. There's also a small Gladware container that's exactly 4oz. I bought some of those to carry my broth to work.

All of this really has no point... in truth, I'm burning nervous energy. I've been cleaning all day, being comforted by my husband, but if I slow down, the anxiety edges in. :nervous

You're well prepared, like I was. But, please don't be nervous. This surgery is a breeze. I know it's easier said than done but you'll understand once you're home and recovering. *hugs* :)

Wheetsin -

You are more prepared than the average bear (at least any that I know!). It sounds like you mentally have your head around this and that's a GREAT way to start! You'll be ok... it's a time to be nervous, so don't feel crazy. I was nervous, too! Best wishes for a great surgery and a speedy recovery! Take Care,

Kim

Wheetsin, I think if you were NOT worried I'd be worried. You are about to embark on an entirely new lifestyle that no one can prepair you for until you actually experinece. I think it must be the same way for astronauts. They have read everything they could get their hands on, they talked with other people who've been to outerspace, but until they actually go, they can't grok the experince. And that's sort of what banding takes, you cannot grok it until you do it.

Wheetsin-

I'm thinking of you honey......Just remember, you have the best surgeon in the area (in my opinion)...not to mention sweet and kind of cute (in my opinion). You are in excellent hands!!! Think of Wednesday as being the first day of the rest of your life which will be filled with health, feeling good, and lots of energy. A little pre-surgery jitters is healthy and normal...I had it too. Breathe with me now....Innnn 2, 3, 4, 5....... and Out 2, 3, 4, 5. Keep doing that over and over and you will do just fine. Sending happy thoughts and lots of weight loss your way!

Oh man... I felt like such a tool when he had me do that in the consultation room.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I'm not nervous about the band, or the recovery, or complications. Not yet, anyway. I'm nervous about the surgery process, and most specifically -- about going under. I know I won't remember it, etc. - but just the thought of it unnerves me. I had surgery once, but I was only about a year old.

I have complete confidence in our doc & his team. I feel like I am in very good hands.

You will do fine.

It's the normal pre-op what in the hell am I about to do to myself. I went through it too. It was followed by the what the hell did I do to myself question for about the next 2 weeks. :)

Remember things do get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
