Feeling A Little Discouraged

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12/22, I did great with my pre-op diet, losing 20+ lbs. I had my surgery, and had my port flip, which caused me to not get my first fill for a while. I have since had 3 fills. And, although I do feel restriction, and I can see that I am eating alot less, I am still not seeing the scale move.

At my last fill appt, it had been 4 weeks, and I only lost 2lbs. Its been a week since my last fill, and the scale is still not moving. I eat healthy, (I dont count my calories) only fresh fruits/vegis, lean meats and 3 times a day. I feel full after about 6-8 bites, so I know that I'm not consuming alot of calories....but the scale just isnt moving.

I was hoping that by this summer I would be down at least 30 lbs, but at this rate, by the time summer hits, it will be only 5lbs max.

I work full time, and when I get home, I have to cook for the family and do all the household stuff, so dont have much time to get to the gym (I know thats a big part of my problem)

What suggestions do you have to get off this plateau? I would appreciate any suggestions to see the weight start to drop. (My next fill is scheduled for April 30th)

Eat more! I wasn't eating a lot either, but I upped my Protein intake and am trying to eat more balanced meals, and it worked. Your body needs to have a certain amount of calories to burn fat, and you might not be getting enough. You might try Weight Watchers online - there are lots of things you can eat and there's a support group on this site. I'm losing an average of 2 lbs per week (down 25 since my surgery on 12/30) and while that doesn't sound like a lot, 1-2 lbs per week should be your goal.

Exercise, too, is key. I'm working out at Curves 3 days a week and trying to use my stairclimber at least 2 days. If I don't exercise, I don't lose.

Most of all, don't get discouraged. This is a journey - check with your doctor to see if maybe your band is too tight - and know that we'll all support you here!

Make sure you are getting enough Protein. And definately add some form of exercise to your day. It doesn't have to be much to start but its good to start establishing a routine. Get a beginner workout tape. Walk around your neighborhood, do wall push ups, walk up and down your steps 3 or 4 times....just move!! start with 15 mins...then work up to 30 and so on..

I made a deal with myself that while watching tv in the evenings, every commerical I must do some form of exercise......sit-up, wall push-ups, leg lifts, lifting weights.....if I watch tv for 2 hours thats comes to a 40 min workout.

every little bit helps.

You might be like a lot of us and need to balance your calorie intake and calories burned in order to get more weight off. I know counting calories is pretty boring but unless u know how many you are consuming you may be eating too little or even too many. fruit is a lot of sugar/fructose it may be u are eating a lot of fruit ?

Change something small, see if it works if not change something else. I would try steering clear of root veg and no more than 1 fruit per day to avoid loading carbs .. stick to green veg it has a lot more beneficial properties :) and exercise like mad ..

Good luck !

Yes, eat, eat, eat! Trust me I was there too. It's hard because you can't really eat that much because you get full faster and you won't lose unless you eat more. I was discouraged as well. I got over it though. I just take it day by day. The key for me is to eat 1200 calories a day. I normally eat a light Breakfast (boiled egg and fruit) and lunch (some sort of protein) and then I really don't eat dinner. Maybe something very light. That works for me. I drink Water all day long. That helps so much as well. My surgery was 6/11 and I have had 4 fills. My last one was in 11/11. I'm doing fine but should get another one soon. Good luck and try not to get discouraged!! Remember, slow and stady journey..

I usually have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, tuna w/ half Tblsp light mayo and an apple or raw broccoli for lunch, and a light dinner (Fish or a little ground turkey, steamed vegis). I cannot eat any chicken or dry meats because they get stuck and I dont et breads for the same reason. Maybe I'm not getting enough calories because I truly only eat 6-10 bites before I cant eat anymore

Well, I think I am finally on the down hill of my plateau. The past couple of days, I have been doing MUCH better and have started to lose again. thank goodness because I really want to see a decent loss when I go back to my doctor in 10 days!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
