I am having surgery in the morning!!

Recommended Posts

I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am tomorrow (2/27/06). My surgery is scheduled for 7:30am with Dr. Spivak. I am having it done at Hermann hospital for any of you who are familiar with the medical center. I am nothing but excited...I am not nervous at all....I just can't wait to have this done and begin my journey as a bandster. I talked to a nurse from day surgery and she said I should be good to go home by noon tomorrow.

This forum has been so helpful to me in so many ways. I read so many good things about the doctor I chose that it gives me added confidence. I found a shopping list of things to buy post surgery. I didnt know what PB was until I read this thread...and so on. I think the tips I receive here will definitely help me make this procedure a success for me. I am so glad you all are here to help me along. Thanks to all!! I'll be back on when I am feeling up to it to update my status.

Wish me luck!! Dena

Yay Dena! I remember so well those last few hours before surgery. I was so anxious to get started with the band that I never thought to be nervous. My hubby was a basket case though. heh

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and when you get home be sure to let us know how you're doing! I'll be thinking about ya! *smiles*

Good luck and congrats...your way ahead of the game not being nervous...I was so scared. I about chickened out in the holding room before they put my IV in. Then I was fine...once they put the good drugs in me :)

Wow Stacey you just had your surgery a week ago. How are you feeling? At what point did you feel ok to drive? I am just wondering how my recovery will go. I havent had surgery in over 13 years..and that was to get my gallbladder out. Previous experience and the fact that my job has me in the operating room often...probably are the reasons I am not nervous at all.

I hate to write this cause people get all mad when I say this on here...I have actually had people write me hateful things about posting this...but since you asked....

I had a great recovery. I used no pain meds at all (basically cause they tasted nasty) and my pain was not that bad. I had my surgery on Monday morning and went to work on Wed. and continued the rest of the week. I really had a great recovery and still am. The Gas is what hurt me so bad, but it was managable. I think if you tell yourself it is not going to be bad, and you don't let yourself lay around you do alot better. I didn't sleep at all during the day and walked around alot on monday and tuesday. The night time was the worse thing, because I couldn't get comfortable, but that lasted 2 or 3 nights only. This is only my experience, and I realize that not everyone had this experience and not everyone will have this experience, so please don't bash me people when you read this!!!

Hope all goes well with your surgery, let us know!!! You'll do great!

Good luck to you! I had a pretty sore first few days, better and better every day after that. Be gentle with yourself. This is huge!!!!!! Give yourself the time to heal that you will need. Thinking positive thoughts for your speedy recovery.

I have tons of sick days at work...so I took the entire week off. I am going to take is easy and not rush anything. And Stacey I am sorry some people did that to you for posting your story of recovery. I believe different people have different experiences and that is what helps us to learn from each other. This is a support forum...not a bashing forum. I think it is great you have had such an easy recovery...good for you!!

Shame on them for writing hateful things about your positive recovery. My recovery was much like yours. I did take pain meds for a day and a half, only as a precautionary measure though. I was never really in pain. I just wanted to ward off any potential pain. I was up and around doing my normal thing a fews days following surgery. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
