Any Doctors In Raleigh,nc Not Use The Fluro?

Recommended Posts

I think it's called fluro. I have read that the doctor that I think or thought I was going with uses fluro and you get very tiny fills. Kinda discouraged about this.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Fluoro is no big deal. Its just white stuff that they have you swallow and they see it going down on an xray...if the stream looks too thin, you might be too tight, if it pours on through, you might need more fill. My doc never used it.

Cheap on the fills is a whole other thing and it is very important. Some docs only give you a cc or a half at each fill and that is only every month or six weeks...this means you might have six months or even a year before your band starts working for you. My doc gave me three fills totalling 6cc in my 10cc band and for me that was green zone...I think some docs are cheap with the fills because after a certain period of time you have to pay for them! Best of luck!

My surgeon uses fluroscopy for every fill. What surgeon/hospital are you thinking of going with? I had mine done by Dr. Yoo at Duke Raleigh. Very happy with how everything went. Just over a year out and down 80 pounds. I'd be happy to help with any other questions or concerns. Let me know!

I was thinking of going with Dr. Enochs. I have read a few threads that complain about his PA's not giving enough fills or not at all and also complaining about people hating their fluro because the PA's looking at the fluro and not listening to the patient.

So I don't know what to do.I don't want to pay all this money for a fill and not get anything. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly about the fluro. It just seems that they are taking your money for awhile until you finally get the right amount.

Xaveir did you go to a surgeon in the Raleigh area?

Thanks!

I personally like getting it done under fluro. It's more accurate. I've had my band since 1/10/11 and never had to get an unfill. There have been a couple times where I went back sooner than my scheduled 4 weeks because I felt the fill wasn't "tight" enough, but they never give me any problem with coming in earlier. That being said, for the first couple months I did not have the fills under fluro and those were ok too. I think the most important thing is to be able to have an open and communicative relationship with your surgeon and whomever is giving you the fills. It shouldn't matter what method they use. Have you met with Dr. Enochs and his staff yet? I met with Dr. Yoo, his bariatric nurse, his PA and his office assistant before I even decided on the surgery. If you meet this doctor and feel comfortable, I wouldn't worry about negative posts.

I've read post that people are saying after a fill they feel like their band is too tight. If their doctors use the fluro how can it be too tight?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
