Stuck For The First Time :(

Recommended Posts

Water doesn't help because it has nowhere to go. Think of the blockage as being like a blocked loo. What happens when you add more Water? The stuff doesn't go down it sort of makes it all swirl around and come back up.

Sorry if that image is gross but it was the easiest thing I could think of to explain it.

LOL, that makes sense... How long does it take to usually go away? I'm learning so much from this site... I appreciate everyone's help.

Ok this sounds silly...but I actually did the same thing on lunch meat last week at a friends house....I was talking and eating and forgot to chew, chew ,chew...I knew instantly what I had done. I actually started to break out in a sweat!!...I felt it in my back something aweful....I didn't know what to do...and realy didn't want her to know what was going on so when she went down stairs to get the laundry I went and hung myself off the bed kind of upside down. the gravity made the food come back up.....Worked....not for sure if it happens again how many places will have a place for me to hang upside down, but just another technique we can put in our arsonal for another time-haha

Hope you are feeling better now

Hahaha, I don't mean to laugh but that was a great visual.... I think it sounds like a good idea and will try it when I go to bed.

Water makes it worse but sometimes helps you get it back up...sounds gross but sometimes you need to put a finger in your throat to gag it up.

I end up taking a large swallow of Fresca WHILE i'm standing over the toilet. That usually helps get it all out. Sometimes I will vomit for 2 hours strait, and nothing else helps. After doing this a few times that usually clears me up. Good luck!

Water can help either bring it back up, or soften the food enough that it will slide through the band. I also find that leaning back and arching your back as far as u can go helps as well. Stand up take deep breaths too.

Yeah, I've been told not to take a drink. But sometimes when it's stuck like there's no tomorrow I'll take a drink anyway because that sucker is coming up if I do. At least then I get relief.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
