I'm going in for my first fill on April 19 and I was wondering if it would be possible to tighten my band the most as possible and then later reducing it if it was too tight. A friend of my mines that also has the band suggested it because after going through ten fills he is finally is his "green zone" which is 8cc in a 10cc band. Any susggestions? And where you put on a liquid diet after the fill?

It all depends on your doctor. My doctor gives a large fill the first time (I got 5.5cc for my first fill) then only 1/2 to 1 cc each fill after that. When I was in this last time, I only got 1/2 cc. I am at 7.5cc in a 14 cc band, I do feel restriction, but I think when I go back at the end of the month, I will get 1/2 cc more. I can tell I am close though, but still not seeing the weight come off that quickly

Everyone is totally different. What may be tight for one, isn't for another. Better safe than sorry getting too much. I'm sure there aren't many doctors out there that would do that anyways.

I can't imagine a dr doing that. Giving you as much as possible for your first fill. They probably give you the most during the first fill only because they're starting from zero, but you want to go slowly. And yes, almost everyone has to "rest their stomach" as much as possible after a fill. My dr tells me Clear liquids for 24 hrs then diet as tolerated. Some people do 3 days of full liquids. Just depends on your dr.

Good luck!

You need time to adjust to the new way of eating. Giving you a fill that tight straight up would probably cause you problems. Drs do things in a certain way for a reason. You need to trust your Dr and that he knows what is best.

I agree with what the others said -- it depends on your doctor. I have a friend that got her band done in Mexico. She got a HUGE fill pretty soon after her surgery, and she only had to get it tweaked once after that. I suppose that works out well because Mexico is a long way to go for a fill from New York. (This was when the surgery was new and there weren't many doctors doing them in the USA.) On the other hand, I went in for a bajillion little fills during my journey. I can't imagine my surgeon ever agreeing to giving a BIG fill if he has the option. So yeah...I think it just depends on your surgeon and circumstances and whatnot. Talk to your doctor about it -- the worst thing that can happen is he'll tell you "no."

I just had my first fill and they put in 4ccs. I think the doctor likes to start slowly to fill ur band. And I was put on the liquid soft diet for a couple of days

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
