I have a question.

I see everyone is talking about insane pain levels' date=' do the doctor not give a pain med?

I went to see my surgeon two weeks ago and gave me a prescription on the spot, I didn't even ask.[/quote']

Yes they do give pain medicine, but the pain medicine I have to take is in liquid form it's Tylenol with codeine, and it's not strong enough for me.

No, the nurse was giving me morphine through IV Every 2 hr. Then once i could swallow, liquid Oxycodone every 4. She gave me that and anti nausea med for home. It knocks me out for a while but as soon as I get up and move my abdomen, or that 4 hour dose wears off, it's horrible. It hurts to breathe right now.

Some ppl seem to have minimal pain tho.

@lalaj Thanks

Hello Sandrie! Glad to see your post and knowing you have successfully completed your surgery! Take it easy and heal. I've read from others that they used a heating pad for the shoulder pain, gas x and walking. Hope this helps. Praying for a speedy recovery- one day at a time.

The only way to get rid of gas pains is to walk, walking helps disperse the gas and after u do it u will feel so much better. Good luck!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

        Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
