My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and I need a buddy. I have a question, did anyone else just say heck with it and barely eat for the 10 days? I just can't stand the texture or taste of the Protein Drinks. My surgeon did allowed me to have upto 1 1/2 cup of light yogurt or cottage daily.

I'm back home after surgery yesterday. It went really well. I don't remember much after surgery. I was getting some good drugs. So far so good. Just trying to get in enough fluids, that's the hardest part

I'm not sure if what I feel is restriction or not since my swelling is still going down. I feel tight and gassy after I drink. I have to do liquids for two full weeks. I am not hungry at all, actually have to force myself to eat...that's new! No desire for food at all. I just want to get out of this house. I live alone and it is very hard and depressing to be here all day and night! I also have bad pain in my back and can't seem to figure out what that is from.

I think we were banded the same day- May 14th and I also have this constant nagging pain in my back. It feels like gas but it just wont go away, It is ok when I get up in the morning but by the time I eat or drink, it is there the rest of the day. Right above the bra line in the center. Nothing at all helps! Is this what you are experiencing and does anything help you? I even called the doctor about it- just said hopefully it will pass.

Glad to hear your doing well! I'm one week out and still have yet to get in my 64oz of fluids per day- I am determined to do it today. I agree that is one of the hardest parts.

I think absolutely everyone here was at least somewhat nervous. You are only human and this is a huge step. Of course you fell uncertainty- you don't know what its like on the other side. But you can read thousands of posts here that show its a good place and at whatever stage you are at in the process, a handful of other people are right there with you, many to the day.

I got to the hospital at 7:30, went into the OR at 10am, and still beat my kids home from school by 3pm. It has been one of the easier surgeries I have ever had. I wishI had done this when my kids were just 7- I missed out on so much fun becasue I was too overweight to play. You will not regret this.

Congrats! Its a relief to have it over. The fluids will get easier in a couple days. :)

Christine, your feelings are normal. I was an emotional wreck about a week leading up to my surgery. One minute I was excited, the next minute I wanted to just sabotage the whole thing. My moods were everywhere. You have nothing to worry about. This is an extremely safe surgery with a quick recovery time. I will be honest, the first few days sucked but as long as you can have pain meds and remember to REST you will be fine. You can do this.

I can't even begin to tell you what a wreck I was. I didnt sleep for the 3 days prior to my surgery, seriously I had a total of maybe 4 hours. I'm such a punk when it comes to these types of things. I will be honest with you, it was the easiest thing. The most pain has been the gas. That's it! Of course a little sore from the surgery but the gas pains were the biggest annoyance.

That is absolutley what I feel, very annoying because nothing helps. The heat helps but it is only temporary, as soon as I remove the heat, it comes back. I also have a sharp pain in my neck that worries me. I think it is all gas, but it is going on day 6 for me with gas and it is bad! Oh, hot tea helps but also temporary.

I was very nervous too. I rode the roller coaster of emotions and went up and down and up and down. I am experiencing that same thing now too that I am home recovering. Dont feel dumb, this is a huge decision and I think if we went in lightly and prepared for surgery day as if we were taking a trip to the mall, there would be something wrong with us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
