How long did you do *just* liquids??

Recommended Posts

Hi all-

Just a quick thanks to everyone who has responded to my questions so far... I was banded last Tuesday (2/21) and you all have been a great help.

Now my question... How long did you all stick to *JUST* liquids? ? I know 1 week is what I am supposed to do, but it is getting really hard. All the liquids are making me nauseous and I'm not getting in my Protein. If I had surgery last Tuesday, does that mean I can start pureed foods this Tuesday? Would it be very bad if I started a day earlier? Please let me know what you experienced/what you think... your feedback is much appreciated! smile.gif

Hi! It depends on each doctor's directions. Mine said Clear Liquids for 5 days, then thicker liquids for 5 days, mushies for 5 days, semi-solids for 5 days, then solids when I felt ready. I tell you though, from each graduation into the next category, that first Protein shake, fat free refried Beans, etc were the BEST I ever had!

What instructions did your doctor leave for you? I would follow whatever he instructed just to be on the safe side. Take care and good luck! CONGRATULATIONS also!:clap2:

I was on liquids for 3 weeks, 2 weeks of Clear Liquids and 1 week of full liquids...you need to folllow your Dr.s post op instructions, every Dr. has a different post op plan. Follow the rules , do not deviate from his instructions, there is a reason he gave them to you. You need to heal, eating too soon before your Dr. allows it could jeopardize things with your band. I know it is hard but there is light at the end of the tunnel, hang in there :)

Drink Protein drinks to get in your Protein, it helps curb hunger and may help with the nausea

My Dr had me on liquids for 3 days and then modified liquids (pudding, potatoes, oatmeal, etc) for 4 days and I can start things like pureed chicken today if I want on day 7. I think I am going to try it...but every Dr is different.....and you need to do what your Doc says..good luck!

2 days prior to surgery (today is day #1 of those 2), and I *think* 3 days after. The pre-op liquids is sugar free, the post-op is sugar free & clear.

Oh, you know what? I'm a big fat liar.

At all times I can do Jell-O, so I guess it depends on whether you consider that a liquid or a (semi) solid. :)

I was on clear liquids for days 1-4, full liquids for days 5 and 6. Now I a on mushies for 2 weeks, then "soft" but not blended for 2 weeks.

Good luck!

I had clear liquids for week 1, full liquids week 2, mushies week 3, and worked to softer solids on week 4. It seems like every doctor has different guidelines. Follow yours and play it safe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
