Help....weird Feeling!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 3/27/12 making me almost 2 weeks post op and everything has been going better than I expected with no problems. This morning I was sleeping on my stomach and I went to roll over and get my alarm clock and I felt a weird feeling in the middle of my stomach like something popped. No pain just a small burning sensation for a few seconds. It has me scared I messed something up. I have done everything correctly except I have picked my 3 year old son up a few times and now Im all paranoid that thats caused me to weaken something and it just snapped??? I know everyone will tell me to call my MD but has this happened to anyone? My MD is about 2 hours away and I just went back to work so I am freaking out!!!!!!!

I'm sure that was disconcerting, but freaking out won't help fix it. It's possible that you popped a suture, but since you're so recently banded, it could just be that the act of rolling over pulled a bit on your healing abdominal muscles. Was this weird sensation located anywhere near your port (the biggest incision)? The port is stitched into the abdominal fascia and it's very hard to avoid putting stress on that area when rolling over in bed. Even if you did pop a suture there, your port may still be accessible for fills, and you won't know that until you go to the doc for your first fill. For the sake of peace of mind, why don't you call your surgeon's office?

I agree with Jean. Most likely scenario is a pulled stitch. And as she says you should call your Dr.

Thanks for the feedback. My port is on the left side of my chest so I don't think it was that. I am just so scared it was a suture bc everything has been going so well I hate to think I messed up anything.

Was this pain in your stomach, or your abdomen?

Your stomach is at the top of your abdomen, and your band is at the top of that, so any sensations related to your band would probably be felt in your chest, not your abdomen.

And if your port is also near your chest, then the feeling in your abdomen probably has nothing to do with your band or your port.

Maybe a couple of inches below my sternum. I had a small hernia repair also. Called the surgeon but I'm waiting on a call back. All seems well, no problems today. Just a really scary feeling. This has been a dream come true so far and I have adjusted better then I ever could of imagined so I hate to think that something could be messed up.

I had a hernia repair also and I was banded on the same day as you!! Around day 6 I had a super burning sensation at my port site and it was very painful but it went away two days later. I have two little ones and I had over done it with them the day before. My doctor also told me that I would have more pain in my chest because of the hernia repair, and I did. It sounds like you popped a stitch but from what I understand the stitches are just a formality, everything is probably fine but as always just check with your doctor.

I thought I pulled my port out of place when I was getting that burning sensation but the doctor said it was just the healing process and the hooks in the back of the port moving as I move.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
