Optifast is yucky

Recommended Posts

Oh, I am having a pitty me day. I have been on Optifast for four days now and I am so hungry. My doc, Dr. Mumford (Ontario) has you on optifast for two weeks before the surgery. You are only allowed one serving of non-root veggies a day with the optifast. I am starting to think I should cancel this surgery! How will I make it until March 9??? I have noticed such differences in what to eat before surgery on this board. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me. All I can smell is the spagetti supper my family is eating upstairs.... oh, and I dream of pizza:hungry:

My pre-op diet wasn't as tough as yours. I could eat Protein Shakes and lean meat and veggies, but no carbs, sugar or fat. The post op diet was harder because it was like yours, all liquids. Time did go by faster than I thought it would though and now I'm back on regular foods again! The 9th isn't that far away..... you can do it! Good news is - I lost quite a bit of weight on the pre-op diet and am guessing by what you're eating that you really will! Maybe you could check with your doctor and find out if there's anything at all you could eat when you feel like you're going crazy and can't take one more shake? ?? Good Luck and best wishes for your surgery!

I feel your pain. I was on Optifast for 2 weeks before surgery. It helped me to drink a cup of hot beef or chicken broth in the evenings as well. You might try mixing a can of V-8 with the beef broth. I also had sugar free popsicle sometimes.

I know it is tough right know but after the first week, it seemed to get better. I felt like it got me mentally ready for after surgery. The liquid diet after surgery wasn't nearly as hard for me to follow. During the second week, I also started to see some weight loss which was a big boost for me. Hang in there and good luck to you. It is definitely worth it in the long run!!
