I did not have to go off of them either, although I did find out a few days after surgery that traditional birth control may not absorb properly after. My gynecologist said the birth control to be on after any WLS is the nuvaring or an IUD.

Hormonal birth control increases your risk of blood clots and isn't well absorbed after surgery.

I knew that was going to be an issue so I tried to plan ahead. My doctor asked that you stop all meds for the day before and the next few days you might not be able to get a pill down, if that is what you are using. I had the depo provera shot which lasts 3 months. I got it about 30 days before surgery so that I wouldnt have a gap in my protection. I know my doctor didnt want me getting the shot much closer to surgery though. Good luck!

(I got pregnant with my 2nd child on the nuva ring... btw)

Please speak with you surgeon ASAP. Medication can affect how your body reacts to surgery; so you need to find out if/when you should stop taking BC before surgery. I had a blood clot presurgery (no previous history of bloodclots) that led to a stroke. Bloodclots are no Joke!
