Seriously Need Help And Advice

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on 10/28/11. I quickly lost 35 pounds the first month. Since then I have lost nothing. I have 6 Ccs in my band. Sometimes when I have spicy foods I feel restriction but otherwise no. I was exercising up to 6 times per week (30-40minutes elliptical). Joined WW to log food and I still lost nothing. I am so frustrated and gave up last week. I am so depressed and feel like I wasted my Money, embarrassed myself (since people know I did it), and yet again failed. I keep reading how successful people have been and it makes me feel worse. Has anyone been where I have been and actually lost more weight?

Have you had any additional fills?

Are you getting your fills? Are you taking in enough Water and Protein in? How many calories are you taking in a day? It appears that you are on track with your exercise. If you have no restriction more than likely you are eating how and what you want. I cant say if you are on a plateau, because I'm not sure how long they normally last. You are not a year out yet, I would not give up so easily. I would check my diet to see if there's something that I may need to change. I would schedule a fill with my physician and talk to my nutritionist. Yes, I agree some lose weight faster than other but we must not compare cause we are all different. And yes we want the weight to come off over night but it does not work like that. The band is a tool and we have to learn how to utilize it, so that it works for us. What works for you does not mean it will work for me. Stop worrying about what others think this adds pressure to what you are already going through. In life some people want you to fail, but I'm determined to not give them the satisfaction. You made the decision to do this for you and you can do this. Stay encouraged, attend lapband support groups in your town, continue to workout, and most importantly see your physician and let him/her know so they can get you to the green zone. Goodluck on your continued journey into a healthier, happier you. We are here for you. Wishing you success.

6 cc's in what size band, and how come you have not had any additional fills?

Have you been seeing your Dr. for regular follow up's?

For the first 6 months I saw my Dr. every 30 days and monitored my progress every step of he way till my band was properly adjusted.

After that it's been a snap.

As mentioned previously without knowing what you are eating it's hard to provide suggestions. I know post op I got in a very very bad habit of eating honey roasted Peanut Butter. It's a mushie and Protein right? Ummmm No. I have to recycle and when I was noticed I was eating a jar of it a week ( I live alone) I realized I had to stop! Clearly I was'nt stopping at 2 Tablespoons.

I did not get restriction until 10.6 ccs in a 11 CC band. This is a will power diet until you get restriction. Do you have a digital food scale? I am 16 months out and still weigh out 3 oz of Protein lunch and dinner.

I think all of your suggestions are good ones!! I have another appointment in May - I will suggest a fill. Until then - I will log my food and see if I notice anything. Thank you for all your help and encouragement.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
