Banded April 2Nd And Still In Pain???

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be completely honest! Even when they wheeled me into surgery my intuition was to run! I have four kids, work full time, and go to school at night! Really nervous about making this change... That being said, I had the surgery and my stomach looks like I been in a fight with Tison! My stomach is soooo sore. I am starving too, didn't expect that! I can barely get down the liquids and all I want is food, real food! I should also tell u I have IBS-d really bad and since I can only tolerate liquids I can't stay out of the bathroom! Was this a mistake or is all I am feeling normal? I'm going crazy thinking about never having a sub again or pasta!! I guess I should of just listened to my intuition! I wasn't ready for this!

you aren't even a week post-op, so calm down. Many people say that they have the same what did I do feeling in the first couple weeks. Remember that you may or may not be able to eat certain foods, but more than likely it will be a few months down the line before it becomes reality.

Make sure to get enough Protein in during this time, it will help with the hunger (good equation for the proper amount of Protein is body weight x 0.3= grams of protein per day). You need good shakes for this. What are your Dr's instructions for returning to normal food?

I was banded on the 2 as well. I'm having a rough time as well, I even ended up in the ER on Tuesday night for severe vommitting and diarehhea. I was also extremely dehydrated. I've been having the diarehhea problem all week, it sux. I've cried and had my breakdowns but ultimately I did this to change my life. So hang in there it can only get better. Stay strong ;)

As they say...liquids in, liquids out :/..the battle starts right away, and you can either fight it, or throw in the towel. I am 7 months out, and i still have days where i question if this was the right decision. Going out to eat with my husband or friends is not the same anymore. I am either to nervous to eat for fear of having a stuck episode, or i sit there feeling sorry for myself because i cant enjoy it. BUT, i quickly realize, i am in control of this. And i know my limits, so i eat a piece of this, a piece of that, some of this, and im done. I can still eat pretty much anything i did before, just much much less of it, and im ok with that!

Tahnee.... I'm glad I'm not alone but sorry your going through this too! I think I'm not drinking enough Protein but unfortunately they are making me sick to my stomach. I know it's too early to freak out but it's what I do when I don't feel good! Hopefully that changes soon! What is this "stuck" thing u guys are talking about? I taking one day at a time!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
