Help, I Think My Hair Is Falling Out!

Recommended Posts

After my shower tonight a lot of hair was coming out in my hand. I mean have a lot of hair so I don't think I will go bald or anything but is this normal? I am banded 3 1/2 months now.

Very normal. It's from the stress of surgery and could be a sign of not getting enough Protein. Try to get at least 80gms of protein a day. I had the same thing happened and supplemented by diet with a Protein Shake or Protein Bar a day and added a Biotin supplement in the morning. No more hair problems.

This happened to me about a month ago. I am pounding down Biotin, 7000 mg or whatever the measurement is. It has helped. My hair also did a fair bit of breaking off too. I also deep condition it with this macadamia deep conditioner I found at ulta that is great. Both these things have really helped.

It is common for hair to thin as a result of extended dieting. Just make sure your Protein intake is what is recommended for you by your nutritionist and I take Biotin too it does help, not so much for the loss but to stimulate the regrowth. I have the Biotin Shampoo and conditioner too. I take 5000mgs a day its a large capsule but seems to go down ok :)

A nice side effect of Biotin is that your eyelashes grow too, well mine have anyways :)

I actually use Shampoo with keratin in it...(it has Protein for your hair in it) and I love it...Bought it at Sally Beauty supply its by Miracle 7..but you can find plenty of other brands that have it in it ...something cheaper is the new Suave with keratin that you can find anywhere...haven't had any issues at all with Hair loss but we will see...because I was only banded a couple of months ago. I have veryy thick hair though so if a little wants to come out hey that's fine as long as its not all of it...I eat plenty of Protein also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
