Anyone Ever Use The Fitbit?

Recommended Posts

A co-worker has one and she loves it. She suggested I may want to buy one, but I hadn't heard of it before she mentioned it, so I wanted to get some more insight.

I have had my fitbit for about a week and absolutely love it. It calculates how many steps you take in a day, how many flights of stairs you climb, and also calculates the calories that you have eaten. Well worth the purchase, I purchased mine from Amazon and it was alittle cheaper.

I have owned one for over a year and LOVE it. I track food on their site and do my weight and sleep tracker too there too. Unlike similar products (Bodybugg), the customer service for Fitbit is top rate- they always respond fairly quickly and do not hesitate to send out a new fitbit if something goes wrong with yours.

there is no cost to just use the website after buying the fitbit (or before for that matter), but if you are a data person you can pay $50 a year for more in depth info. This extra service is not necessary to get the most out of your fitbit.

on a side note, they are coming out with a WiFi scale soon that will auto upload your weight to the site so you don't have to manually log it. The scale will also measure lean vs fat mass and other cool things. This is on my must buy list.

I've been looking at the "moto actv" which does everything the fitbit does but it is also waterproof. I Want the waterproof because it will track cals burned from swimming. Has anyone used this?

Many of us January Bandsters have the fitbit. The first I heard of it was on here with all the others'. I think Amazon and BestBuy had a major spike in sales in February due to many of us buying it! I love mine and am never without it. Love the MFP/FitBit programs too!

The fitbit is something worn throughout the day to track total calories... I looked at the website for the Moto Actv, but couldn't seem to find where it says it's waterproof? It also looks like it's more of a exercise/runners watch and not an all day tracker...

what does it say about your sleep?

Holly, you wear it on your wrist with a band they give you. Somehow, it tracks your sleep activity, how long it takes for you to go to sleep, how many times you wake up and how many hours you actually sleep. It's cool.

If you look at the link, it is showing my sleep for last night. You can set the device to either sensitive or normal, and then it will tell you the sleep efficiency and show you how many times you wake up/move a lot at night. I found I could not use the wrist strap to accurately record because I move a lot at night and it would show me as awake a lot. I use the little holder that came with it and clip it directly to my shirt. Pretty painless and a good indicator for me to see how much and the quality of the sleep I'm getting.

Love my fitbit! I feel naked without it and now I make sure I do over 10,000 steps a day. I've bumped up my minimum to 12,000. I just got my helicopter badge!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
