K guys.... Ideas, suggestions, please advise. scale hasnt budged in 3 weeks... Actually has crept up by 0.5 lbs, twice already!

I was banded 2/14/12, have a 10cc band w/2.5 cc fill so far. I exercise 3x a week for about 25 min on my elliptical. I eat super healthy, about 1-1/2 cup portions at a time.

Example day:

Breakfast: 1 pack oatmeal and 1 string cheese

Lunch: 1/2 cup chicken salad, 1 whole grain cracker, 1 ff pudding

Dinner: 1/2 tuna salad, 1/2 cup bean salad,

1 Jello.< /p>

Snack: if anything would be some cheese or hummus.

I never go above 1100 calories a day.

I'm frusteTed. My next fill is 4/16.

Help????

Sometimes the scale stops moving, but your body is loosing inches. Could that be possible? I am a big cheerleader for the high protein/low carbs diet....ketosis is a wonderful thing. It might give your metabolism a boost and skock it into loosing again.

Actually when I look at myself in the mirror, I say to myself.." ok, you look like you've lost a couple this week" then I get the courage to step on the scale and nothing!

So yes, it's possible inches are coming off:) thanks for the reminder!!

My scale did the same thing 2 weeks post op. Leveled off for 3 weeks. Then now I'm losing again. Inches kept coming off because I measure everything every Tuesday.

Starting weight 223

Did the pre op diet went down to 212 the day before surgery.

I'm 196 today. Banded 2/29. 27 lbs in 6 weeks. I can't believe it! 36 more to goal!

It might be that u need to exercise more, some of us manage without exercise and lose weight and some dont. I have to exercise every day otherwise no weight comes off and i make sure its cardio followed by strength/resistance .. if you are on a small plateau small changes can afftect your weight so try and increase what you are doing, for most of us 3 x 25 mins per week on an eliptical wouldnt be enough to drop the more stubborn lbs :)

good luck !

I was thinking the same thing as Cazzy... I exercise everyday between 20 mins to an hour or more. I mix it up between exercise vids and fast walking outside with the dogs. The best thing for you to do is mix it up as much as you can...and try to increase to it to like 4-6 days a week, 45 mins a day. I bet you would start seeing results in no time...I know I did...esp. once I started switching it up, its better to change your workouts so your muscles don't get used to the same thing over and over...that's why I stopped loosin for a time and as soon as I started a new workout I was loosing again...I lost 10 pounds!

I know if you eat too little, then the metabolism will slow down and conserve fats. The way to beat it is to increase exercise or add in more healthy calories or a little of both. Try tweaking something and see if you start losing again. Or go back to presurgery diet for one week and see if you can kick start again!

Thanks for all the advise guys!!!

I will defenitely add a little more variety to my workout. I thought this would be good enough for me since I didn't exercise at all before!! Lol

You guys all have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Quit watching the scale.... also change it up a bit... dont do the same exercise and change up your meals... your body adapts to things then maintains. Also, you were just banded so you are not even in the green zone yet, it will take a few fills and A LOT of frustration till you get there. Just go with it and trust what you put in your mouth. Have faith and you will get where you want. I lose 5-10 lbs right away then will stay the same weight for a good 3-4 weeks, it does not mean I am failing, just need some minor changes in habit or re-evaluate what I am eating and what exercises I am doing. Also, may want to increase your work out time. For most people, the first 20 min of workout gets you warmed up. You need to look into 35+ min of cardio workout and maybe some light weight training; it burns MORE calories.

For what it's worth, my Dr. was interrogating me once about my exercise routine, and I could not come up with a answer he was satisfied with.

Finally he asked me, "Are you sweating when you workout?" I said yes, like a pig, and he said that's perfect!

As far as plateauing, it happens and there is no good reason why. best explanation I've heard is that without knowing it, we fall into routines with our eating, and exercising. We need to change things around.

25 minutes of elliptical at a "Steady State" can become routine real fast. Along with steady states, you need to mix in hill climbs and sprints. I would aim for 45 minutes also.

A good program I use when on the elliptical or treadmill is called "Cardiac Coach" http://www.cardiocoach.com/

They are programs you can purchase and download for your I-pod.

They're great workouts. You do need to wear a heart rate monitor.

There are 10 programs, but you only need the first one to get started. I've been using them for 2 years and only own 3.

Girl...a great beginning workout is Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone...But I just tried Hip Hop Abs with Shaun T (the guy who does Insanity) and it was AWESOME! I don't like dancing...but this was more like a slight dance workout...it was actually really great and you work up a great sweat ..goes by real fast too...the first one I did was 30 mins long. That along with a nice fast walk outside with weights at some point really would be great for you. I like to just go out and do it for as long as I possibly can...I love to go real far in the woods (I live in a state forest) Its absolutely beautiful out there. I used to never exercise either but I just love it so much now...I love being active...makes me feel like a whole new person! :)

Thank you Violet....

Wow sounds gorgeous where u live! Wish we had a forest here in South Florida to enjoy!

I will look into those workout options as well, I am a true beginner. Hate the gym, never into sports, but I know I need to. I guess I haven't yet found a workout I enjoy. All of you guys have given me awesome ideas:) thanks!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
