When Can I Go To The Gym

Recommended Posts

The instruction I got was about four weeks post op- but I feel so excited to start losing weight- I'm dying to get working -but at the same time I want to make sure it's safe and that I don't hurt myself :)

Any advice?

I was banded March 12th...went to the gym for the first time yesterday and did 45 minutes on the elliptical. MY INCISION SITES HURT TERRIBLY especially the port site. I didn't feel anything while working out only once I was done so maybe If you start off very slowly you'll be okay.

I wouldn't push it....as mentioned you're still healing! Check with your doc as to when you can go back and what you can do.

My dr told me I was fine to do cardio just not weight lifting but I still think it was too soon.

My fiance was just banded on February 15th and at his post op visit 2 weeks after, his surgeon said he could start exercising...just no crazy-heavy weights or abdominal exercises for 6 months. I seem to remember my surgeon saying the same thing to me. Just go easy and listen to your body. If something hurts, stop and talk to your doctor about it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
