What About Sodium In The Preop Diet?

Recommended Posts

I did not see anything about sodium in the prepping. I have been eating s can of black Beans with a can of Rotel. Is that OK?

I think you should ask your nutritionist or surgeon about that. My pre-op diet was low, low sodium - no canned or processed foods, no cured meats (like ham or deli meats)or sausage. It's my understanding that a low sodium diet helps your body burn up the glycogen it has stored in the form of adipose (fat) tissue, much of which is located in the liver. That, and weight loss, helps improve the texture and size of your liver so that it's easier for your surgeon to maneuver during band placement.
