I hope to get the band in may, I'm almost finished with all of the insurance requirement. I was wondering how bad the port scar really is? I've heard many different opinions regarding the scars. Is anyone willing to share any pictures?

I wouldn't worry about the scares....I had 7 incisions and all but the port look like nothing more than a scratch. I'm only 16 day out so the port insion is still covered in the dermabond, so I can't tell exactly tell what its going to look like....but it surely isn't going to be a massive scare....it should fit in nicely with the stretch marks....haha

I have 5, 4 of them are really small after being banded for 13 months I hardly notice them. The one where my port is, is a little larger about an inch but its still not as bad as my c-section scar lol. I'll take some pictures tonight and post them in my profile tomorrow so check back if you like.

I had 5 incisions and they are not large at all. The port site is a bit longer, maybe about 3/4 of an inch and right under my bra. It is still covered with Dermabond. I can see the scabbing but the others looked the same. The ones where the Dermabond has already came off looks like a very simple scratch. I am actually pleased. I was really afraid at first but everything is healing nicely.

Ifd oyu click my blog link in my ticker, you can see a picture I took the day of surgery. I will probably be doing a newer one here soon, as they are much, much better. Really, it's not too bad at all.

I have five scars: 4 are less then 1/4 an inch and after a year and a half look like a small bug bite; port scar is about 3 inches and VERY LIGHT. It is in fact lighter and smoother than my gall bladder scar that is 22 years old! I have so many stretch marks from 40 years of weight loss and gains you really can hardly see them!

Thanks so much Dert for sharing the pictures. This makes me feel a lot better. I know losing the weight is priority and people talk about how the scars should not matter but to me they do. I am very fortunate to have no stretch marks and I did not want to have a large two inch scar on my stomach. Yours are very small and look great! Thanks again for sharing!!!

My scars are not bad, but I also have 2 scars for my port. One from the original surgery, the other from 7 weeks later when I had to have a port revision. Since I am only 3 months post op, they are all still noticeable and dark, but I know they will fade. by the time I am thin enough to show off my tummy, they should be almost non existant. Plus, if you can see them, its just a reminder to me where I've been and where I dont want to go back to

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
