Anyone Unexpectedly Have Sleep Apnea?

Recommended Posts

For my insurance to cover i have to have a 40+ BMI. RIght now I am sitting at 39.4. The surgeon's office wants me to do a sleep study. I would be VERY surprised if I actually have sleep apnea, but am doing the test anyway. Anyone else do the test for insurance reasons and turns out you actually DID have it?! I am trying not to get discouraged, but it seems like a waste of time.

I did!!! Now, I have a machine and a very mild case. Had to take my machine to the hospital.Didn't use it but doctor said I needed to have it just on case.

Yeah I had it to but honestly I believe it's something they tell everyone they have! That's just my opinion tho. I don't know of a single person who has been tested that didn't test positive!

Well, that is what I wanted to hear! :) I don't care if it is true or not, as long as it will help my case with insurance! :) ha ha!

I did not test positive, but my surgeon required it before they would put you under. I thought that I might have it, due to some concurrent symptoms with apnea. The sleep Dr did say I woke up many times throughout the night that I don't remember, but that was about it.

My insurance required the test but I already had it...my hubby received the diagnosis during the qualification process;) go figure...

I already knew I had sleep apnea because I had all of the symptoms! Falling asleep at the wheel at 9AM...loud snoring....gasping for air while sleep...and feeling tired all the time no matter how long I slept. Sleep apnea is a very serious condition for some of us. Oh, to answer your question, it wasn't unexpected...lol!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
