How To Make Your Own Nutella...without All The Calories And Fat

Recommended Posts

I love Nutella, but I don't like wasting 200 calories and 11g of fat on 2 tbsp of it. I made my own today for only 80 calories and 3g of fat. Granted, it's not made with hazelnuts, but you get the same kind of taste with this. I used some in a smoothie this morning (I call it Nutella pumpkin Smoothie...YUM!) and I also put some on my whole wheat toast today for lunch. It was delicious!!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp PB2 powder (basically ground peanuts without the add fat like in peanut butter)

2-3 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I used 3 and it came out with a rich dark chocolate taste)

1 tsp of raw natural honey (if you like yours really sweet, you could always add a little more)

about 2 tbsp of Water

In a small bowl, add PB2 and cocoa. Whisk together with a whisk until most of the lumps are gone. Add honey and 1 tbsp Water. Mix well. Add another tbsp of water if it's too thick. You can add as much or as little water as you like depending on your desired consistency. Enjoy!

*I think there is a PB2 powder that already has cocoa added to it, so you could just omit the cocoa if you have that kind.

*If you are not fond of a rich dark chocolate taste, you could use a little less cocoa and a little more honey and it should dial the flavor down a little. I love the dark chocolate taste though!

I love it too! I was getting kind of low, so I ordered some more from Amazon today. I ordered the regular and the kind that has the chocolate in it. I'm excited to try it in my smoothies!!

It's basically ground up peanuts. It comes in powder form. You add a little Water to it and mix it and it comes out kind of the consistency of Peanut Butter. It has 85% less fat and much less calories than regular peanut butter.

Well, that's the only "food item" I've ever ordered from Amazon and it was fine. It comes in a sealed jar, like Peanut Butter does, and they also have some that comes in sealed bags....depends on which brand you get.

You can also buy it from the manufacturer:

http://bellplantation.com/

The shipping is expensive so it's worth it to buy more bottles and keep it in the pantry. It is sealed and lasts a long time.

I always buy $25 worth so I get free shipping on Amazon. One of these days I'm going to go to Bell Plantation. Supposedly it's in a town about 25 minutes away from my house. I've just been to lazy to try to figure out where it is, lol.

Ok, I wouldn't call it Nutella exactly, but it's a decent chocolate/nut substitute and I would deffinately prefer to eat this with it's lower calories than the real stuff with the high calories. I love Nutella but also am not willing to blow those calories on so little. Thank you for sharing!

You are welcome. I have seen recipes for Nutella on Pinterest made with ground hazelnuts (made in a food processor) but that is too much trouble for me. Most people probably don't like the extreme dark chocolate flavor that I like, but that's why I said to decrease the chocolate and increase the honey if you wanted a sweeter chocolate.

Just read a review about PB2 on Amazon and the reviewer mentioned Netrition.com. That site has PB2 for much cheaper than Amazon and Netrition charges a flat shipping fee of $4.95 no matter how much you order.

I'm ordering both the regular and chocolate and look forward to trying your recipe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
