I took a week off, but I would recommend a week and a half just to be on the safe side. When I went back to work the car ride was the worst because it was very bumpy. It depends how you feel though.

It took me a good 10 day to feel "good" But I did have a hyatial hernia and umbilical hernia and a lot of adhessions removed...so maybe the extra stuff made me more sore.

Scratch that... I will be off a month. I do a lot of physical work St my job. The nurse said nothing over ten pounds the first day then three to four weeks no more than twenty pounds lifting. The port attaches to some muscle and strain is bad.

I lift, bend, pull pallets of freight, climb ladders.

I had my surgery on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. I had little pain and took no pain medication. Some gas discomfort, but it was bearable.

However 6 months later when I had my gallbladder removed... I had a lot more pain and was on heavy pain meds for 3 days post op. I was out a solid week.

I think it is hard to predict how your body will react. You also need to take into account your job. Do you have a desk job? Do you lift and move around a lot?

Give yourself a week if you can. Good luck!!

Wearing a binder helped alot.

Can you please tell me what a binder is? I have a desk job and I sit for 10.5 hours a day. My surgery is scheduled for a fri and I go back to work on Sunday. I have not told anyone in the office that I am having this surgery so I am having to keep all this a secret.

An abdominal binder is made of elastic materials. It is use to support your stomach and back. Walmart sells abdominal binders or you can look it up on the internet. I could not of went to work without it.

I had surgery on a Friday and felt ready to go back to work by the following Wednesday. All in all not really that bad. Gas pains bothered me the most and the area around the port was sore.

Have been off for 6 weeks, due to job would not let me work with restrictions of lifting. So I guess it all depends on type of work you do.

I would def say that it depends on what type of job you have. I have a desk job so it wasn't too bad for me. I had my surgery on Monday and took off that whole week but by Thursday I was feeling a whole lot better. If your job is physical, you should check with your Doc because I'm sure you would need more then a week. Lots of luck to you!!

Good to read this. I am a teacher and stand on my feet all day, and I am worried about being out too long.

Thanks for posting this topic as it has been something that I have been wondering about. My surgury is on Thurs the 26th and I am planning to go back to work on Monday--have meeting I have to attend. I guess I may need to rethink that and take another couple days off. Thanks everyone.

I had surgery Monday and went back the following Monday. I have a physical job. On my feet 10 hour shifts bending into cages, lifting dogs etc. I'm an LVT. I felt like I could've gone back at like 5 days post op, but I had already taken off. The Monday I went back we'd had a snow storm over night and I had to dig my car out from like a foot of snow. Probably should not have done that but I was so bored at home.. I told my supervisor I'd possibly take off Monday too, so I knew it'd be ok if I called out, but I couldn't take another day of sitting around

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
