Does Anyone Know If Lap Band Surgery Is Tax Deductable?

Recommended Posts

I have heard that major medical expenses are indeed tax deductible. How much you can deduct will depend...my Doctor's office actually mentioned it.

It could be deducted on Schedule "A". But you would have to have enough other deductions for medical to make a difference! Good luck! I haven't had medical deductions in 35 years, since I was paying for my daughters medications at $25,000 out of pocket! My son doesn't own his home, so even though h had a lot of deducitons for medical and donations, he didn't haev enough to not take standard deduction. Karen( I am not a tax expert, however!!!)

The surgery, and any money you pay for fills is tax deductible. Other expenses related to the surgery are probably deductible as well (e.g. mileage to and from the doc office or hospital). I'm a CPA, contact me if you have further questions.

Of course, you'll want to consult a tax professional, but ALL out of pocket medical expenses are deductable. Total amount deductable may depend on your business situation too. I own my LLC,and even deduct my health insurance premiums. Good luck to you.......

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
