Breakfast Ideas & Help

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 23rd. I have read several comments from people stating the band works better with warm foods in the morning, along with my surgeon saying the same thing. With that being said, I go back to work in a week. I plan on visiting the gym before I go. I have an hour drive to work & would live to be able to drink my Breakfast in the car. Does anyone have any tips or ideas you can recommend?

I usually just have coffee when I get up, and have to wait a couple of hours before trying solids (but that's just me). You could try warming up a Protein Shake to drink, I've had that suggested to me also.

You could scramble up some eggs and put them in a small thermos and have something warm to eat on the way. In the beginning I used to eat my eggs on the drive to work because I would use the clock to time in between my bites. My other usual breakfast is a yogurt topped with 1/2 c Kashi Cereal. You could keep that in an ice chest and it should be fine in your car.

Be careful warming up the Protein. I asked if i could put Protein Powder in my coffe and they said no. My dietician said that it breaks down the protein in the powder which defeats the purpose. smoothies on the other hand with protein powder are delicious but usually the premade Premier Protein shake (chocolate and vanilla) are a good start. Good luck finding what works for you! Oh and eating in the car does not work for me... I have a short drive and it simply puts me in a bad position to rush. I like the timing of the bites on the clock but I am just not that focused!! :-)

Have you tried Click Protein? It has espresso in it, and you can heat it. Not too hot, naturally, but it is a heatable protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
