Any Ladies Out There With Pcos? Banded Or In The Process?

Recommended Posts

i see there are alot of us with the PCOS that have decided to get the band. One thing I have noticved atleast with myself is if I eat any carbs the weight halts and if i don't take my metformin 3x day the weight also stalls. The PCOS does make it harder to loose and I wonder if smaller frequent fills might help us out more then getting them when we reach the yellow zone. I was in what i thought was the green zone for a few weeks then this month bamb the weight loss t stopped and i am deffinately eating more, dispite having a good amt. of Fluid n my band and taking my metformin as prescribed and working out daily doing something.

What scares me is what if I fill my band and i don't reach goal? then what?

I have pcos, and I had lap band eight weeks ago. So far I have lost 43lbs and 41 inches. I have only had two fills. I struggle everyday and I'm really hard on myself. If you put your heart into it to will get results. I know several women that lost weight and don't have any systoms of pcos anymore.

Good Luck!!!

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I got the band in march 2008. I have lost 95 lbs. I even got pregnant and have a healthy son and I weigh less than I did per-pregnancy. I will tell you that I did not lose as fast as my best friend who got the surgery too but I did reach a healthy weight. So just know that PCOS does not mean you will fail with the band. Good luck to you all.

Wow it is so nice to know there are successful lapbanders who have PCOS. After trying fertility treatments and about a million diets I finally decided to give the lapband a go. I was just banded on 4/23. In total I have lost 22 lbs so far but have stalled ( which I found is normal after surgery) I am really hoping that this will be the answer to the prayer. I have never been able to lose weight with out being on metformin, I am hoping I do not have to go back on it but if the combination of the two turn me into a fat burning power house , then bring it on!!

I got banded Nov 2010, so I am 1.5 years out. Started at 250 lbs, 5'6". Now I am 184. I continued taking BC pills and 1500 mg metformin throughout. I have about 25 lbs to go. I actually JUST started a real exercise regimen as I was on a plateau. I am thrilled with my progress, particularly since before I had to starve myself to lose anything. I went from a pant size 22 to a 14 and feel like a million bucks! So much energy ! Good luck to you all!

You ladies really inspire me. Thank you for all of the comments. I had a double pulmonary embolism when i was 22, iam now 28, and absolutley terrified of surgery. I jst can't live my life like this any more. If Im on diet pills or aderall, it helps and I loose weight.... but I don't want to be rliant on that forever! I am on a roler coaster with my emotions and this decision. I feel like if I get this surgery, Im a failure. Scared of what others will think. Im so ready for a new life, I think that I deserve to be happy and to look good, yet despight my best efforts to eat right and exercise, here I am. On top of it, Im built like a line backer, very muscular, so at times I feel like a man.

I have to admit that I don't understand the people who say they feel getting a band means they are a failure. You can't get the band unless you have tried at a million diets. It not your fault that they havent worked... With our metabolism, with PCOS, you have to eat abnormally little food. Once you get the band, you see how little you are eating and realize you couldn't have lost all the weight without it.

This is the best "forever" decision I could have ever made. I know I won't gain it back, either. It's just about impossible.

And you don't have to announce it to anyone - it's not like they have to know.

I happen to tell anyone and everyone about it to increase awareness.

I have PCOS as well and decided to get a band in hopes that I will be able to get pregnant in a year or so. I've always just taken birth control for PCOS but it always gives me horrible cystic acne.

I was banded on Dec 19, 2011 and I've lost 71 lbs to date. I decided about 2 months ago to dump the birth control because I was sick of the horrible acne. I'm happy to report that last month I had a normal 1 week period. I have about 49 more pounds to lose and then I'm going to try getting pregnant and see how it goes.

i had PCOS i was banded in 2009. i was put on metformin but due to side affects (unpleasent) ones i decided not to continue with them. I started Birth Control and that seemed to make my periods come regular. I was also told i would need medication and treatments to be able to concieve that i wouldnt be able to do it on my own. In 2009 i lost 40 pounds after having my lapband surgery and in March of 2010 i found out i was pregnant! i truly believe it was the lapband and loosing weight that helped me concieve.

At the end of the day having surgery is your choice and you can decide who knows and doesnt know. I too was concerned about people " talking" about me, the band, and my sugery in case i didnt lose the weight. I solved that problem by not telling People. I only told my family and my bf at the time, the people who i KNEW would support me. Three years later although i havent lost all the weight i LOVE my band and am comfortable with talking about it. Your in no way shape or form a failure for wanting to take control of your life to live longer and healthier. Goodluck to you sunshine. Feel free to send me a message anytime.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
