Getting Stuck?

Recommended Posts

Does getting stuck result from not chewing well enough/type of food or does it mean you have too much Fluid in the band? I'm 3 months post off but had a flipped port that was just corrected...so really I feel like I'm starting from the beginning. I'm trying my best to remember all the rules of chewing, not drinking, etc. I recently had a fill and have noticed a get a little stuck sometimes. I think it's because I'm not chewing well enough or eating too fast...but does it mean that there is too much Fluid in the band too? This is the first time I've felt anything close to restriction and I just want to make sure that the band is too full.

Thanks!

Getting stuck could be for all three of the reasons you suggested - eating too fast, not chewing enough, or being too full. I am tight and getting stuck often. My doc fills under fluro and told me that it looked tight, but not too tight, when I had my last fill.

I am eating carefully, mindfully, and slowly (or trying to).

He told me that if I can't get liquids down, come in for a slight unfill immediately at any time of the day, any day of the week. (My program is at a renowned hospital and all of the ER docs are trained to deal with band emergencies.) He also said that if I can't eat solid Protein without PBing, come in for a slight unfill.

If you are not able to eat, able to drink freely, or are uncomfortable - get a slight unfill. Otherwise, be diligent with eating slowly, chewing well and paying attention. I will admit that all of my stuck episodes have been my fault. It's a learning curve.

Thanks! My gut tells me it is more of how I am eating rather than being too full.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
