Woke up and my port moved...

Recommended Posts

I'm coming up on my 1 year bandanniversary and this morning when I awoke I went to feel my port and it's not in the same place. I had a small fill about 1 week ago and since then it moved up about 1 inch. I'm down almost 50lbs and I can feel it more now then before I lost the weight. I hope I'm not going crazy...has this happen to others?

I had my first fill last week, and a day later the port felt very different to me. It was as if there was no fat between my skin and the port, and I could feel every detail of the port. Typically, I can just feel a lump there. Very weird. It's back to "normal" now, but when I saw your post it struck me that this might be some sort of thing that happens when we get fills. Anyone else??

I have heard of ports flipping (stitches tear loose and the port sticks up). Not sure if there is any pain associated with this or not. Are you in any pain? If so, call your doctor.

By the way.. happy almost baniversary, and w00t! coming up on 50 pounds lost is wonderful! Yay for you!

Hi Photonut,

No pain, just moved up, really weird. Since I've lost the weight (and I have a lot more to go), the port is so defined on my right side, like just skin and port, not so much fat surrounding it, and I'm not going crazy it moved up about 1 inch closer to my waist line...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
