Severe Gas Pain - Two Years Post Op

Recommended Posts

I was banded almost two years ago and have struggled with gas pain ever since

Sometimes I find at night it is hard to sleep and feel like I can burp the alphabet if I needed to? The pain I have seems to not be in the stomach but more so inbetween the should blades and inbetween the top of my rib cage. Gas pills do not work......... Does anyone have the same issues? Any suggestions to assist with the pain?

It could be reflux. Have you discussed it with your Dr?

Thank you for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I have said something in passing but just didn't want to make it a big deal....... But I probably should. I do not even know what relux is...

did you have a hiatus hernia done as well when you were banded?? this is something you need to discuss with the dr. its not a normal thing for someone to suffer from it consistently for so long.

You do need to have this checked out. It could, also, be gall bladder attack. I had mine out several years before lapband surgery. But, I have read several people who after loosing a lot of weight had gall bladder attacks. Mine did feel like I was being stabbed with a hot knife in my chest and through to my back. Good luck! I have the same pain, banded March 12, 2010. It's behind my sternum and tums sometimes helps. Mine gets so bad I cry. The funny thing is, it stopped when I went from 6cc to 7.5cc. I had some removed last week and it's back :o(. I personally don't think it's acid reflux...bc I had that too and it feels different.

I have spoken with my Dr. and he wasn't concerned but the fact that I'm doubled over in pain is concerning...could it really be just gas?

My family doctor suggested that artificial sweetners might be the cause of my gas problem. I cut way back on them and the gas problems disappeared. When I increased my intake of artifical sweetner, back came the gas problems. Hope something this simple can help you.

I did the same thing. I had my first surgery in Feb. 2010 and didn't have that many problems with gas until last June. It was very painful. I even had a test done at the hospital because I didn't know what in the world was going on. It went away and I haven't had problems until now (my second surgery).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
