Lap Band + Plication (Plication Worries)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I am having a lot of worries about my plication and I am wondering if anybody can ease my mind. I went to the doctor and she said I could start

doing soft foods. I can only have Refried Beans, pudding, Jello and Cottage cheese. She absolutely freaked out because I told her I ate some guacamole. I'm talking maybe a spoon full. She said that because of the fat content it would make my stomach work too hard and it could pop my stitches. Ever since she talked about popping my stitches I have been absolutely paranoid about it happening! So here are my questions:

1.) Would you know if one of your stitches did come out?

2.) Is it really as easy as she made it sound to pop one of them?

3.) Why when I eat all the mushy food I get hungry again in 30 minutes? I thought with my smaller stomach I would be full faster.

4.) I was told that my stomach size is only 2 - 4 ounces but I swear I can eat at least twice that.

Thanks!!!!

hey... i did the lap band with plication as well and yea.. it isnt as simple as it sounded. so.. i was told i could have Jello cause it turns into liquid and its not good for your stomach. i was starving and got tierd of liquids before my 2 weeks post op was over and so i started having bits of chicken and when i was supposed to be on mushy foods.. i was having grilled chicken. im abt 2 mths post op now and im fine. i was also told i could only do cardio at the gym and i was lifting 40 lbs 5 days after sugery.

i odnt think ur going to know if one of ur stitches popped. and it cant be that easy to pop it.

hunger in 30 mins. i experienced that to. ideally ud be able to just eat a few oz..but ur just gettin over the swelling and as you continue to heal.. your pouch is bigger and the band seems to not be there at all. when you got the band only a tiny bit.. if any.. saline solution was injected. you're not going to feel as much restricted just yet. as well mushy foods tend to slip thru the band quite easily and so ur hungry again. its okay to snack between meals. have a yogurt. have a shake.. and of course keep drinking Water. BE CAREFUL .. with drinking Water. i made the mistake of drinking ot much to quickly.. trick is.. to sip it. not have an 8 oz bottle of water all at once cause it will wash the food thru. water shud be consumed just like your food.. in small sips and slowly.

the mushy foods arent for you to loose weight.. remember that.. its to give your body time to heal. have enough to eat. and u have to remember to eat often. i also made the mistake of not eating enuff.. be sure to time ur drinking and eating properly and hopefullly ur not as hungry as often.

as you continue to heal and possibly get a fill.. ud experience more restriction

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
