Band Friendly Thai?

Recommended Posts

I rarely eat Thai but I'm going out with my brother and sister-in-law to a Thai place. Other than trying to avoid things with a lot of coconut milk or peanut sauce, what are some other good choices? I don't know much about Thai food. Thanks!

Oooh, Thai is one of my favorite ethnic cuisines. There are many Thai options to choose from, but one of the safest will be something called Pad Kra Prow (spelling will vary, but it should be similar). In most Thai restaurants, it contains your choice of meat (chicken is a good lean choice, and some restaurants will mince or grind it if that makes it easier for you) stir fried with onions, sweet pepper, and Thai basil. It's really yummy! You can usually specify how spicy you want it (it's got plenty of flavor even if you ask for no heat). It will be served with rice, but if that gives you problems, just skip it and enjoy the meat and veggies.

A lot of Thai dishes include rice or noodles, so if rice or Pasta gives you problems, avoid those. There are also appetizers that can work well like satay, which is barbecued skewered meats (no sweet BBQ Sauce, just herbs and spices). Good luck and enjoy! :)

I love thai, but confess that coconut milk and peanut sauce are what i usually go for. chicken larb is really good and doesnt involve those two evils. I love love love tom yum Soup too.

So I ended up having the Tom Yum Soup (good but very spicy!) and some steamed chicken and shrimp dumplings. Pretty tasty, but Indian is still my favorite :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
