Do You Feel The Effect Of A Fill Immediately?

Recommended Posts

Do most of you feel the effect of a fill as soon as you leave the doctors office or does it take a few days to change?

Thanks

I didnt really fill it till about 4 to 5 cc's. but at true results they have you get a cup of Water and be able to drink it and keep in down before they want you to leave

I will have my first fill on 4/5. I was banded on 12/30/11, down 36 pounds. The weight loss has slowed so I am very excited but nervous to have the fill next week. I'm hoping and looking forward to feeling full again.

I have always felt the effects immediately, but have seen many others post here that it takes some time to feel it. I don't understand that concept, but that is just because it's not how it works for me.

I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who feels the restriction immediately!! lol. That is, once I began feeling restriction which was after the 4th fill. I've had 7.

I think it depends on how full your band is already. Obviously the more full your band is the more restriction you will fill when they add some.. if you are only on your first or second fill.. you may not feel it yet. But once you start feeling that restriction whether it is your second or third fill...from that point on, you will probably fill it immediately!

I have had it all different ways......my first fill, I never felt anything until my second fill.

My second fill, I felt something before I left the Dr.s office, and it got tighter a week later, only to subside to almost nothing a few weeks later.

My third fill....felt it immediately, got tighter as the days went on, then subsided but remained tight.

A lot depends on how big ids the adjustment, how much have you had prior, etc, etc.

I have heard stories where some Dr.s only give a 1/2 cc per fill, and the patient feels nothing even after their 6-7th fill.

My doc filled mine til it gurgled in my throat then backed it off til I could drink regularly. I swear I'm hungrier now than before my first fill!

I had my first fill yesterday. For dinner (which was about 2 hrs after fill) I drank my Protein drink and could only finish half of it. This morning I had 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and after the second bite could really feel the restriction. I never could finish a meal in the 20 min I should....until today.

Do most of you feel the effect of a fill as soon as you leave the doctors office or does it take a few days to change?

Thanks

I didn't start feeling restrictions immediately until I got 4.5cc in a 10cc band - so there is some validity to how many cc's are in your band.

I just had my 3rd fill yesterday (had 0.75ml put in), now at 4.25ml. I can feel some restriction there, but I can't deal with 2 days of fluids then 2 days of soft food. Im hungry and I need some semi solids already.

I was at 4ml, and for a few months that was enough then I 'maintained' for a few months, then had an overfill, so needed to be unfilled, so went down to 3.5ml and that was too loose for me. Now gone back to my 4ml plus a smidge. So 4.25ml should give me a bit of restriction.

I was too scared to go anymore in case I got too tight again - thats horrific to go through.

Well it didnt come in straight away. It was 14 hours after the fill. I had been to dinner and sipped Soup and plenty of fluids and was fine.

Then I noticed I coudlnt swallow tea or Water or my saliva. And that I felt searing pain in my upper stomach area (probably around the actual band, inflammation etc)

Then I had to spit out my saliva because it wouldnt go through. Ended up carrying a towel with me. Soaked 4 of them right through.

Eventually I had pain in my shoulders, lower back around my kidneys, my joints ached, I was shaking, and sweating, and stop peeing on the 3rd day. I coudnt stand up or sit still, just so aggitated. I stopped producing saliva and got a bit delirious and felt weak. And in such awful pain throughout my entire body. I was day dreaming about taps/fawcets running Water over my face, and loooking quite lovingly at bottles of squash in the cupboard, and just feeling so very very thristy. And I was vomiting a lot over/near constant those 3 days, bile I think.

Eventually ended up in hospital on a drip when they tried to remove some Fluid. Then I starting drinking again and the relief was instant!! I slwept well that ngiht, felt hydrated and the pain went away straight away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
